Average New Car Price Rises to $28,000

The average price of a typical family vehicle rose 6 percent over last year, to $27,958.

That seems so... high! It must be because of all the Exploders and Tahoes people are buying. I've always wondered why people are OK dropping $35,000 on an Exploder, but think that someone who pays $38,000 for a 3-Series is crazy/decadent. Maybe because you get more metal for your money with an SUV? ::Bulb::

In any event, I'm still a little amazed that the average price is nudging $28,000.

B/C those 8,000 rebates might change that average ;)

What's even more frightening is to realize that a significant percentage of new car buyers are also rolling thousands of dollars of negative equity into that new car purchase. :shock:

I would imagine that's the price people are actually paying. Jeez. That means all those V6 Accords, Miatas, Mustang GTs, and Mazda 6s are actually below the average price of a new car. :shock: Terrifying.
