Lower Shifter Boot
I have a 99 6 speed, how do I get the lower shifter boot (I'm talking about the smaller one that holds the shifter in) over the large diameter shifter. I was just going to try to lube it up and force it over, but it looks like it might split if I do that. Any suggestions

Try sprinkling some talcum powder in and around there. It will clear, but it's a tight fit. If it has any signs of cracking/dry rot, it may be time to replace it.

Saw something about a similar issue on Miata.net looks like it would be a bit tricky! http://www.seriousauto.com/simpson_d...r/PA240834.jpg

Is your transmission leaking? Our '02 drips just a touch and I have a feeling the lower shifter boot may be the culprit!

Samm : I am replacing it, it was badly torn up, and I was getting gear oil smell in my car. I am trying to put the new one on.
POS: I haven't noticed any gear oil running down the tranny due to the boot being so bad, just the bad smell. I am actually replacing both of them, the larger rubber boot had a split in it also.
I ordered them from Trussville, they have free shipping all through this month.

Got it on, the new rubber does stretch enough to get over the shifter without tearing up, just used a little silicon spray and it popped right on.
