Headunit Install for an NB

I have never installed a headunit in my life, so I was wondering if anyone had someone on the board could help me out...

I have a decient, but old Pioneer headunit in my project FC that I want to swap into my NB. The NB's headunit is the single DIN OEM one that has problem with the CD drive not being able to read CD's. I am quickly getting sick of the radio and right now the idea of using the Pioneer headunit may just be the ticket.

Would I have to buy a new harness?

Would anyone even have time to come over and help out? It won't be soon, so it would be somewhat tenative as far as when.

The most I could compensate for anyone's time would probably be lunch or something of that sort...

Its fairly simple. I would recommend a new harness adapter. It just makes the job sooo much easier. Get the FORD radio removal tools from your local autozone. Pull out the old radio. Wire up your harness adapter. I reccomend doing it in the garage so you can solder it. You need to install the "cage" for the HU in an NB. You bend the tabs on it to hold the cage in place, then the headunit just slides into the cage.

Soldering? lol, I have no skills in soldering :( Though it seems like getting the Pioneer HU out of the FC may be a giant pain in the ass in comparison to the NB's removal and install.

Crutchfield is the place to get install kits and wiring harnesses. Each kit is vehicle specific and well made. The generic plastic kits suck! Soldering is a PITA to learn. I'm still working on it.

Its not like you are soldering anything onto a board. Just two wires. Just a little dab to make sure they dont pull apart, short out, and make you start a thread about how the fire department tore the hell out of your car because there was some flames under the dash.

I personally prefer butt splices because, unlike solder joints, the wires remain flexable. In aircraft, they do not solder the wires together for this reason. I have installed several radios in my cars. Since you have the storage bin in the car already, there is no need to get the plastic adapter.

The wiring harness can be gotten at you local Car toys, Best Buy, Fry's or anywhere that sells car stereos. The color codes of the wires are listed on the individual wires, but most of the car stereo and woring harnes manufacturers in the past 10 years have all gone to a standard color coding making it very easy to match the colors.

I have plenty of the crimping tools laying around. It seems every time I need one, they all have a tendency to disapear until the job is done. ::Clown::

Just give me a shout over PM and we can work out a date/time... I can help supervise yer install too if you want. I've done plenty... I'm just on a 10lb weight lifting restriction for the next week - Dr's orders. After the week, I can dig right in and help ya with the install.
