Figured I might as well post this here. A buddy needs to purchase a reliable used car. He has about $4,000 to work with but is pretty price sensitive right now, so cheaper is better. Any thoughts would be appreciated. ;)

Carefully check out what Craigslist Dallas has to offer.
There are some pirates lurking on Dallas Craigslist like anywhere.
Be sure to get a VIN & do a carfax.

A miata or a civic. Both very reliable.
Currently thinking about this one to get him by for a year or so:

The owner will take $500 for it. Hell, for that price just drive it until it dies then leave the keys in the seat and walk away.

Sounds safe and reasonable to me ;) .

I'm trying to get a VIN and see if it is current on inspection and registration. Seems like it would be good to bang around in for a while. I'll let you know. Of course, I haven't heard back from my buddy on it. If he doesn't buy it, I might buy and just for the hell of it and use it to drive to work.:burnrubr:

Any SUV driver would save the purchase price on gas alone.
Well S did ya get it or did ya miss it??
Wasn't for me. Friend is talking to the owner still. Apparently the "rough idle" problem is rather significant, and it's not clear the car is in good enough shape to drive home, which would kill the deal.
