Amp Install Ideas

I'm in the process of permanently mounting my amp.

Initially I planned to install my amp like this...

This looks simple and straight forward but is proving to be anything but. Then again it could be I'm just tired of working on my car! ::BaHump::

So I got to toying with other locations. Please offer helpful opinions and suggestions.

I'll post pics in the following responses of my ideas.

Idea # 1 Lose the spare. The idea of going without a spare makes me a bit nervous but it also makes plenty of room.

Trunk floor. Popular but I don't like the idea of losing the trunk depth and damage and cooling issues are a concern.

Mount it on top of the spare semi-permanently. No hinges as above. Drawback is when I have to use the spare on a dark country road. Also, how to secure it?

What about behind the driver seat. It would be just like the ECU behind the passenger seat.

You could use a couple of smaller amps and place them under the rear deck. Out of sight & out of mind.

Trying to think outside the box here.

What if you mounted it to the underside of the trunk? That would keep it out of the way when the trunk is open.

You may have gotten an amp that was a little large for it, but if it will fit, I would flush mount it into the left side of the trunk, above where the joke jack lives.

If I ever do I small system in my car, I plan on including dimensions (based on the size available there) as part of my purchase criteria. Looking at the pictures of your amp, it looks like it isn't even close though. :(

Is the painters tape on it to prevent scratching it?

I lack any car stereo installation knowelege what so ever.

Yes, we didn't want to damage it while trying to test fit the amp prior to making the board.

I did the same thing when making the brackets to mount it to the bottom of my seat in the stock location. It actually helped me identify a spot where the amp would be very close to the seat and rub. A little piece of the soft side of velcro and wala no amp damage.

Since I have an amp in the recessed middle of the trunk and a Bazooka tube (with better sub in it of course;) ) I replaced the spare with a small cig ligher powered air pump/plyers/tire plug kit. Do that and put the amp where the spare used to be. I was considering moving mine there as it tends to get rather hot in its current location when I have my ref bag or back pack in the trunk on top of it.
