Torn small shift boot

Any clues why this would tear while still very new? I replaced it around 2 months ago, and before that around 9 months. So this is two torn in around a year. It causes a horrible burning tranny fluid smell when the fluid from the turret drops right on the cat. Here is a pic of where it has torn. Did I install it too far up the shifter?

Did you mount it below the thick part of the shaft? We see them torn on every car we look at in this area, but in your case Marc you mudst not have the boot down low in the smaller diameter section causing extra stress.
