I love my stumble button! I've heard rumors about turbines in cars. I believe they were actually outlawed in F1 or Indy after somebody owned the competition. I've seen Jay Lenno's turbine sportbike. I would have never imagined this, though.

When I was working at Ayres Corperation in Albany, Georgia, there was an engineer that had placed a small jet turbine engine on his old Ford Econoline pickup. This was a true jet powered vehicle. The engine was mounted on the bed of the truck and was controlled by levers in the cab. The piston engine was still in the truck and was used for reverse and daily driving. I asked the guy to fire it up and let me see it and he was kind enough to oblige. The jet engine had a afterburner that he engineered as well. The engine put out a ton of white smoke as it took off.
Fun indeed.
More recently, I was down in San Antonio at the Schertz SAS factory shoe store in the parking lot when I heard a vehilce screeming past on the highway. A guy had a pretty red and silver paint job on a chevy pickup with a larger turbine engine mounted in the bed and a hole in the tailgait. You could see the blue flame in the engine as he past. Wished I had my camera in both cases.
That turbine bike that Leno has is ultra cool. I would love to try a turbine powered car. Too bad the Chrysler experiment with them in the 60s did not work out. Hmmm, a turbine Miata? I be we can talk Madmonkey into it.
The Indy car of Andy Granitelli was legislated out after it dominated it's first two races.
My father worked for Howmet when I was a kid, and got to see this car up close and personal. Wish I had $425K......
