I'm putting in a new headunit, and replacing the worn out tranny boots. The ::Censor:: knob will NOT come off, not yet anyways. How much torque can I put on this thing with a wrench? In other words, do I have to worry about breaking off the gearshift shaft or anything else down in the tranny?
I wonder if a PO used some epoxy or something.
I think you may need to apply a little NMC™ to it. You're not likely to break anything, but anything is possible. Is it the OEM knob? Did you buy your car from Miata Technologies?Quote:

If it's not stock it may have a set screw (or 2 or 3) that have been tightened down on it.

It is the stock knob. I wasn't sure if I needed to brace the shaft while I wrenched the knob.
