615s in the winter

Last winter with my 215s, it was interesting to say the least. I recall spinning the tires while lightly accelerating in the rain, hydroplaning a few times, and an interesting ice skating experience. This winter with the 615s, nothing. I have driven through torrential rain, light snow, and over several ice patches without incident. The only wet traction issue I have had was autocrossing last August... the back-end would start stepping out under WOT through a wet grassy straightaway, but I suspect I would not have had that problem if I wasn't supercharged.

Anyone else pleased or disappointed with how their 615s have handled the weather?

That's great! That may be the next tire I run. We'll see how the 225 Kooks do.

BTW, I had the same problem at the same spot at that autocross.

I got my 615's back in October. It was one week before Hallett. I used 250 combined miles of backroads and highway to break them in. Then 100 miles of track time to really scrub them in. I drive my car daily, and have never had any problems in the rain or cold. They just stick! :clap:
Granted, I only have 113whp.....for now. ;)

Last night it was really cold. I had not even driven a mile. I snap oversteered in the middle of an intersection. My LSD kicked in just as I let off the throttle and I had immediate traction.

I was pleased with the handling of the Kook's, but not pleased with their tread life. Ordered a 2nd set of 615's for my street wheels yesterday.

Yeah, I never really thought about it but my last set of Kooks didn't make too many miles. I miss my 14" RT215s.

I was just really excited that Hankook started making a 225.

Last Monday, I drove from Sulphur Springs to Dallas on I30 in the rain on RT-615's. Never a tense moment. It was just a light rain, though. The RT-615's are much better in the wet than the RT-215's I had on the yellow Escort.

Andy H. did some tire testing Saturday on the phase 1 course. We were on the sealed asphalt ramp at Texarkana Regional Airport. IIRC, his fastest runs were on 16" 615's. He tried 15" RT-215's and 615's, I don't recall all the sizes. He seems to have a private stock of RT-215's. Imagine that!

615 sounds like a pretty wide tire =P jk.

well I can comment. We''ve had some less than desireable weather in Lubbock over the past few months. and I've had 2 sets, one old, one new (both 615's)

on thin ice, it can be interesting. just be careful, and give yourself plenty of room when going, stopping, turning. (new are better than old, as would be expected)

On thick ice, its scary. don't even attempt hills, you won't make it up. (this was on the almost worn out 615's) Lubbock forgot to salt the roads on this occasion. but it wasn't fun.

In rain, no issues, they work quite fine. (until almost bald)

In snow, don't be stupid and no issues. (unless almost bald, then its about like ice.)

+1 on that. The weather has been crappy lately, and I've had trouble making it up my driveway on more than one occasion.
