I got under the car today and noticed my passenger boot is split in two. ::Censor::
Do I need a whole new rack or can I just get a boot?
Any idea on cost for repair?
Anyone have experience with repairing/replacing this and want to help a brotha out?

Here you go.
I would suggest doing it soon, a boots cheap and a rack ain't. If I recall correctly, I thinlg there is a tube of special grease you are supposed to use like a CV boot, but it has been about 15 years since I have done it and I had a lot of problems to fix with the FIAT. I have'nt done them on a Miata, but a FIAT X-1/9 was'nt that hard.
You will probably need an AJ Special once you are through.
More info.
I did check the fluid level and it was about half. I topped it off.
Just checked. Mine is split too.
No other insight into ths? Certainly I am not the first one to experience a broken rack boot. Didn't Iain replace his steering rack?
Will a simple boot replacement fix this or do I need a rebuilt rack?
Group buy and tech day.
I take it you have the same problem?
So how does one seperate the ball joint? The shop manual says you need to use a special tool.
I'll call Town North tomorrow to check on prices for the boots. I'll also check ball joint boots too as they will be an easy thing to replace at the same time and likely will be cracking soon anyway.
I believe there are three boots on the rack. One on each tie rod and one at the steering column.
Why the Ball Joints? If I were going to all of that trouble to break loose the ball joint I would just replace it, because it's a :king: PITA.
All you should need to seperate is the tie rod ends. You can rent those tools from Vattozone or buy one for about $30. I might even be persuaded to lend you one of the tools.
