Don't get me wrong, it is nice. It sounds kinda silly but one of the things I've already noticed is that my shoulders are more comfortable with the smaller wheel, and the car feels more responsive.... Rick wasn't kidding when he said the OEM wheel was feeling deadening.
Yea the smaller wheel really makes the steering feel nice and meaty. I don't think I could go back to a stock wheel and power steering now, it would feel too weird.
what hub did you go with in the end john?
Well I ordered the Daikei one without the airbag eliminator from Rev9 but the one that I was sent didn't fit so they sent me the more expensive one with the airbag eliminator which did fit so that's the one I have now.
Heh... that kinda sucks.... in an ass-backwards kind of way, my ebay hub was a direct bolt on. Snipped the airbag connector off, spliced the red wire to the grey wire with 3 10ohm resistors, and hooked the red and green wire to the horn and i was out for a test drive. Rick saw it at Jakes, so I'll let him chime in with his thoughts, but for $40 for the wheel and hub shipped i was impressed. The hub was of decent quality in my opinion. One thing I did notice was that the exterior shroud on Rick's Daikei is a little nicer (mine is a plastic accordion).
Yea I probably could have mutilated my wiring to get it to work but seeing as it is advertised as plug and play, and considering the price I paid for it I didn't think I should have to. I'd like to take a look at your wheel next week. Hubs aren't really a question of quality of manufacturing in my opinion because it's just an adapter, not a huge room for mechanical failure so I think what you pay the extra money for is a hub that is well designed and reversible.
In all honesty I'd say i could reverse my install in under 10 minutes. I kept the airbag connector (connected it to the airbag) and I have left enough wire so I could re-attach it if needed. The plan was if the 3 10ohm resistors didn't turn off the airbag light i was going to put the stock wheel back in. the airbag light would drive me batty.
I went with the 350 (actually) because my car has manual steering, I have a repaired rotator cuff and I got it cheap used on ebay! $209 wheel in the colors I wanted for $47 plus shipping from Tokyo. Italy to Tokyo to Dallas, it's been around! Now the hub adapter? That's another story.::wow::
For $40, your rig is a fantastic deal - although it's a little small for my taste... and then there's that whole gauge-blocking thing. However, it looks great, and you don't really notice the accordion hub sleeve unless you reach in a squeeze it. Nice work!Quote:
