We had some kids a few months ago go down our street and shoot about every other car's window out with a pellet gun.
Luckily mine wasn't touched. I thought about picking up a car cover for security reasons. I doubt anyone would go through with the trouble of breaking into a car that they can't see into, but you never know...

So sorry to hear about that. You need a barking dog... a friend of mine who is a cop said that is better than an a alarm. Most people dont pay attention to car alarms anymore, but a barking dog they will check on.
