Yes indeed. Although for those with a Toyota V8, there is a bypass kit available that's a tiny fraction of what it costs to repair/replace the units ($3000+). Luckily my 4Runner got fixed by the dealer under warranty, but I may pick up a bypass kit just to have WHEN it happens again.Quote:

Those haven't aged too well either, based on what I see around town and at autox/track events. Cool car, but the Lexus has far more potential as a sporty DD, and much easier to locate a rice-free example.

By "aged well" I mean the styling, not the availability of unmolested examples. I think the 90-96 Z-Car looks as good today as when new. Same thing with the FD and Miata.
The sc looks cleaner when the factory aero package is on it and I'm a true z car guy. But at least I'm not rolling the grandma mobile.

I had a golden pearl 1999 SC400 for a few years.
That car was awesome! Had extremely smooth ride, and lots of cool features.
Not sure if it was there in 93, but mine had a feature when you take the key out, the steering wheel would telescope back and upwards. The opposite happened when you put the key in. Between this and having a door that was like 8 feet long lol, it was the easiest car to get into, ever.
Maintenance costs were pretty insane though. A set of plug wires was like $200+ if I remember. Had to go with factory wires. All the aftermarket wires would always pop out and caused the car to miss when they stayed in. They had special connectors, and the distributor of the left side of the motor had wires going to the right side, and the distributor of the right side of the motor had wires going to the left. They were the longest wires ever.
Basic repairs(such as the timing belt) were a huge PITA.
Regardless, it was a fun car, and those cars had the nicest, most durable paint, and awesome features. Everything just felt really solid, mostly because everything weighed a ton. The original sales receipt was in my owners manual on mine, with the packages mine had, it was like $55,000 new lol I bought it for like $4500 for a steal at the time. Basically gave it to my dad when he needed a car. He proceeded to trash it.

Nope. It decided to not want to start this past weekend after changing the coolant sensor. Just got the cap, rotor and plugs to change out this week.
