Yup... and that was a strong, finished motor with quality pieces... not one that's been in a front end collision. But hey, caveat emptor.

Miatamoto's engine came from Andy in a "some assembly required" state. He'll correct me if I'm wrong, but IIRC the head hadn't been machined or anything, though valve clearances had been set. Given that it was the '99+ motor, $1000 was a good deal.
The Miata parts vendor in AL (Parts Group) that folks on .net like wants $1200 to $1500 for his, but they're also 99+ motors, crank endplay checked, valve clearances set, new oil pump, timing belt, etc.
All the 1.8L NA motors I found had higher miles than this one, but could be had for in the $750 range.
Thomas pulled the trigger on Andy's motor just before I would have. The Tom in AL couldn't come up with a motor to sell me - so I ended up spending my money with John Day. New pistons, rings, bearings, seals, lifters, oil pump, water pump, light machine work to clean up the valves and seats, etc... for not much more than $1000.
I'd say his ask is a little high for the TCB guys around here (me included), but I wouldn't be surprised if he can find a buyer at close to that price...
YMMV and all that ;)
Can I correct ya?
Miatamoto had it reassembled it was a complete engine when he sold it, ya may want to review the post where he had it listed. ;)
Here is another point of refference.... take it for what it's worth.
VFR750, a forum member who has parted out 3 or 4 Miatas locally this year had a 1995 M Edition with 42k miles back in march. I inquired about the Engine, Transmission, and Diff. Here is his response:
It sounded like a pretty good deal to me at the time, but I couldn't scrape together the money for all of it. I bought the torsen, carrier, drive shaft, and axles at his asking price. By the time I got down there to pick up the diff, he already had the engine and transmission sold for asking price.Quote:
1) engine, $750 here it run before its pulled, 42000 miles.........
2) trans, $300
3) torsen, carrier, drive shaft, axles, $700
4)$1500 for it all............
Ya, I got my 97 engine for $700 with only 40k miles on it and a 94 tranny with about the same miles for $200. The engine price isn't that high, but $750 is way to much for the tranny.
Hey, what about power mirrors?!
guys, I know I put some off on certain items, but I sold it to a friend as a whole.
sold
didn't mean to tease, but I really wanted someone to buy the whole package, and rebuild to race. I found that guy. His name is Roy, and he is with you on the love of the Miata.
Thanks gang!
expect him here soon, told him how great this site was.
