It's raining cats and dogs up here in Frisco, and rain is predicted until mid-to-late afternoon. Sorry, but I'm a fair weather racer. Too bad... I really liked the run/work order for Tire Class.
The weather started out terrible, but the rain stopped early and the course dried out nicely halfway thru the 1st of 2 heats. The wind was cold, but at least it was dry. It was a fun course to drive and it flowed nicely. Congrats to all the trophy winners! The Miata's made a strong showing in Tire Class.
Fun event, great course, shadowed by crappy weather. I really really hate the bus lot.
Good job to Joseph Kahn for taking the SS win and to Thomas for scaring me and Jon the entire event! Slow down Thomas, I don't like the pressure!
One gripe though, is there a reason why we had 2 heats? In the 1st heat we had, um, plenty of leftover workers. Would've given people a chance to warm up in between heats and ulitmately allowed more runs. Kudos to SCCA for getting 4 runs done and out of there by 3:30 though.
Congrats, Joseph on the SS win!
Yeah, accept for the rain and cold wind, all went well.
Fun event today, but I'm with Jeremy, we had entirely too many workers during the first heat, not sure how it was during the second.
That was a good B-stock battle today, and I'm interested to see how fast Jessica is going to get once she gets the hang of the car.
Congrats to POS, J-Fo and Cosmos for the wins! Video to come soon!
Thanks guys, I got a bit lucky and was on fresh tires. I don't suspect it will be a common occurance :)
I'm dead tired today but overall it was a good event after it dried up in the morning. Big thanks to my co-driver Mark, Clovis, and Ken o for helping me get the exhaust put back on after it popped loose. Also good job to ratt_finkel on a blazingly fast 4th run and POS Racing on the CS win.
I'm really looking forward to seeing Jessica drive next weekend, she pulled out a 52.XX beating a lot of guys and it was her first time driving the car in competition and 2nd time driving it period!

Wow:
Nice showing by those pesky Miatas!
- CS beat BS, AS, and all but the top 3 SS
- ES beat CS, BS, AS, and all but the top 3 SS
- STS2 beat STS
Most the Miatas ran in the afternoon when it was a bit warmer with 4 dry runs but they were still very fast. I just saw that Sammm laid down a 52 on street tires and should've won T except for that pesky DS pax.
Also most the BS people switched to BSP to run in the afternoon when weather conditions were iffy. First 2 morning runs sucked but run 3 and 4 were dry. BS to BSP entrants were blazing fast with JFo blasting a 49.1 on his final run and Thomas not far behind. My gf actually spanked the lone BS entrant in Miatamoto's car by 2 seconds!
Anyone who ran 1st heat in those conditions is a great driver IMO. The course improved ~13 seconds between 1st and 4th runs. Congrats to all who drove well.
Let's hope it stays dry for next weekend.[/QUOTE]

Nobody wanted to run 1st heat  for those that did. Even when the bus lot is dry it gets alot faster as the day goes on.
2 heats was a call we made early in the day. At the time we were scheduled to open registration there were about 20 people there. Weather was keeping everyone away, and we didn't know if they'd show up or not. After we made that decision folks continued to trickle in, and even after we had a total tally it looked marginal on being able to go to three heats. That marginal number and the chaos that would've ensued with a total re-do of the run work order (3rd time) led us to stick with the 2 heat format. Everyone jumping classes the morning of the event to get a 2nd heat run group didn't help either.
In retrospect we had something off on our total count, because the number we based the 2 heat decision on was around 90 entrants when there ended up being 122 with times. At 122 we could've pulled off a 3 heat format. At 90 it doesn't work so well.
With 122 drivers adding another run would've added an hour to the event just in raw run time (122 runs x 25 second interval). That would've been an additional 30 minutes for the course workers in the first heat who were out there in horrible conditions. That was the main reason we made the call to go with 4 runs instead of 5 - we didn't want to leave folks out there in really crummy conditions any longer.
I happen to love that surface, even when it's wet. I always do well on slick surfaces. (50.3 with a dumb cone in an ES car!)
I love the surface too. When I'm driving something with AWD!
Here's my fastest run. Could have gone faster, messed up in a few spots. :(
Run 4 - 49.4
We had an interesting conversation with the TMS worker that was on site Sunday. He said that a car control clinic had been recently held on the site and that soapy water was sprayed on the far end of the lot for the wet driving session. Maybe that explains why it was so greasy down there. I know as 2nd car out in Heat 1 the corner at the far end was a pucker on 1st runs and still slimy on run 4. I really felt sorry for the poor kiddos in the Karts.
Steve
WOW! That IS interesting! It was slick as shinola down there!
Nothing new. Talk to NealB or OzCop or Neff.
Just be glad they did it down there. We all know soap runs down hill ;)

Even managed to get a few shots of a certain CSP competitor:

I was going to comment that "at least he looks fast," but I ain't no speed demon myself, so I won't say it.
Great pics Dennis! Not to be a whiner...BUT...I'd love to see more shots of anything besides the side of the car. I'm not sure about everyone else. But I love to see the car mid-turn or even exiting a turn when everything is loaded up, etc.

Yeah... if they're gonna be from the side, they need excitement (like peeing on a pylon!)
