Me 2!
Best of luck all!
PS: I'm finally in Rockwall :) A bit more humid than AZ...
I know it is a long shot but if anyone has to cancel and has a room at the Ramada shoot me a note please! (pos.racing(at)gmail.com)
I can get in Saturday Night but not Friday! TIA
What resolution were you looking for since the event had already passed? Todd has implemented changes to the series, as well as this this particular event.
Voting with your wallet? Steve, sorry, but that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You're participating in killing a series that has a history of some of the best competition, as well as events that have won Divisional of the Year on the National scene.
Disappointed.
Hey beagleracing know sometime the best reply is no reply. Yes you may not like what was posted about last years event but sometimes the past is best left in the past. ;-)
Me and Evil KK are going this year and it is going to be the best weekend of Autocross ever! ::Banana::
Dan,
I think the current economic climate is more of an issue than what's being stated here. I know Jen & I just don't have the extra money right now to attend the Houston Div. Heck, there's a good chance we're not going to Nationals either. It's just been that kind of year.
Texas Region SCCA advertises every Divisional prominently on the center section of our web landing page. Heck, I'd be happy to get that kind of advertising on the other region's webpages. We try to hype all the events. Jerrett & many other folks on this Miata forum have been hyping all the Divisionals this year.
Event attendance is down all across the country. Not just Texas Divisionals. Let’s not read something into a few comments made by a few folks.
I love the CS site, and I'm excited about the event. Bummer that the event had issues last year, but that happens. The Street Tire Challenge sucked and the Blytheville Tour had a frigging drag start and a dust storm, but I'll still consider both events next year. Besides, ain't no way I'm letting Minehart/Pedroza take the divisional series win in STR if I can help it!!
Dan:
Known you for a bunch of years and you helped me a great deal when I first started this sport. I truly appreciate that. Ultimately autocross, as much as we love the sport is a commodity. If I go to a cafe and have repeated bad meals or an ice house and get skunk beer I will take my business else where. Solo is no different. If you would like to have a private conversation with me on what my issues are I will gladly discuss them with you. I am no more part of a movement to destroy the SW Divisional series than I was part of shooting JR or killing Kenny. I expressed my opinion that I vote with my wallet and choose not to spend my money at that event. It is in no different than those of us that chose not to run Nationals at Heartland Park or other events that were either poorly run or unsafe. I hold no position with any clubs, have no influence and am happy to be an everyday competitor and member of this forum.
Here in Texas we still enjoy freedom of speech and choice despite the best efforts of powers in DC and Austin to restrict them and expressed that opinion. I appreciate your work and all of your accomplishments but will not drag out things on a public forum that have no business being there.
If you would like to discuss this one on one feel free to call me at 817.999.9878

Dan see this, a well known and often quoted saying in economic literature (I had lots of PHD economists quoting this to me for many years when I worked in the telecom industry)

I personally have no axe to grind with Houston Region. In the past, I've told anyone who would listen that they put on some of the best events I've ever attended. But not in the last couple of years, and at different locations, not just TAMU.
Show me that a good event was had by ALL this year and I'll vote with my wallet and go again. There are a lot of other opportunities to run autocross, and I'll go where the fun-to-hassle ratio is good for me. Not at all the case last year for me.
I'm glad you had a good time last year and either didn't care about the same stuff that matters to me or didn't get the same treatment from Houston Region personnel. The event was several hours long and different people apparently had very different experiences.
When one SCCA member puts another SCCA member at risk of physical harm, I would expect there would be consequences. But not here despite several people raising the issue to appropriate levels (Regional Executive) within 24 hours of the event.
You must not understand the facts, and if you do and are still disappointed in SteveE, then I'm surprised at your lack of regard for another person's health.
You need to call SteveE or me and get it first hand. 817 9 seven 5 14 two 2
Y'all are right, I'm sure the entire story can't be posted here for the sake of time and space ;) I'm sorry that someone's health was at stake, I wasn't aware of that. If it happened to me, or my wife, I"d disregard anything any "official" had to say and would just go get in the shade and find loads of ice water. Even at Nationals I can't think of anyone up there that would trump a health matter. I wouldn't even ask, I'd just radio in and let people know what I"m doing and if they had a problem with it, I'd deal with it later.
I don't know the other items, to be honest, all I know is that every region at every Div has had its share of issues, some regions more than others. I chalk it up to those individuals who are running the show and I try to see how burned out they potentially are. The most experienced veterans who have been holding a seat of some sort on a BOD are those, IMO, that are most burned out and do a sloppy job in the end. The newbies in a BOD position always do the best events. Those that were at the Retama Div in SA would have seen that with Ricky Crow's job that he did.
Brad, I understand the issue of economics, for sure. I'm not making this event at aTm and I'm even sponsoring it! But the money just isn't there and I have my shop's priority ahead of racing. I have business to take care of with my family just ahead of that. Racing is a distant 3rd.
I hope to see everyone at Nationals. There's a chance that I won't make it because of the situation with our STR car that has been nothing but problems since last October, but I may have a potential ride in a certain SSM RX7.

I just saw this on the TAMSCC forum:
"We have a Street Sweeper coming in to sweep the course and make our pavement look all nice and grippy."
Cool!
Good luck to everyone going down! Keep us posted.
Hope your tires don't melt on the way down!! GO FAST!!
Good luck to all.
Stay hydrated!!!!
We have arrived in lovely College Staion!
Good luck to all.
Let me be the first to say that their tech person has a better uniform than ours. ::Naughty:
Course looks fun.
Hey Guys,
I am Jason Wade, the VP of the Texas A&M Sports Car Club. We are hosting the Houston SCCA, and I am responsible for for risk management for the club. If anyone feels that something is unsafe at the event please contact me or ask for one of the other TAMSCC officers at the event. Just so you know, I spent the last 2 days on a street sweeper to make sure the course is clean and there are no gravel pits in the area we are using. I would love to meet you guys that are coming out to the event, I used to live in Frisco and flowermound and I came to a few dinners etc so you may recognize me. I can't control anything about the way the Houston SCCA events are ran here other than safety related concerns, but I would be happy to discuss any issues.. I'll be wearing a green and white hat with a 3 leafed clover on it, and I'll be coming around to meet everyone especially to the miatas..
Looking forward to meeting you guys..
Jason
I'm in sixth, about 9/10 out of first. Had a cone at the end of my last and best run that would have moved me up 7/10s. Mike is not having a good event.
Mick is ahead of Lorin.
Autocross sucks....
Who's winning STR?
Tim Dorman in Schadt's car, Jeff is 2nd.
Evil KK is also winning her class. ::Banana::
Fun day today looking forward to tomorrow!
I ended up in sixth (of 17ish), one spot out of the trophies. Stupid AX. ;)
Not sure why we fared so poorly... We drove flat-out, dude.
Oh yea Texas Region accrued the most points to win the Region Points Championship for the 2011 divisional series! :1Place:
Great time!
(BTW: I HATE cones!)
You guys are most welcome, I hope everyone had a great time..
Did everyone get their free event coupon good for a free event at one of our fall autocrosses?
BTW, we also have one more practice scheduled this summer, August 20th-21st. The event offers unlimited runs, so you can get massive seat time before your next event. Like the divisional, the course will be on the big 4/10 split "X" area and gets changed from the first day to the second. The gate is open 8am-2pm both days with last runs around 4-430 depending on who's still there. It's a relaxed environment where you can come in the morning, make some runs, go eat lunch and come back and do it again, with no corner working. We have someone go out and reset cones when a couple get knocked over, so no standing in the heat for hours. Like I said, it's real relaxed and a great time. Times are displayed but not recorded, so you can try different approaches to corners etc and not have to waste a run at an actual event to find out if something works for you. It's also a great way to introduce someone who hasn't autocrossed before to the sport. I'd love to see a caravan of Miatas come down from Dallas and run the course all afternoon or all weekend.
I’ll get mine fixed in time to be out there. :bash: Some of y'all may remember my silver Mazdaspeed on ssrs..
We also hope you come back to see us later this year for our fall autocross schedule. We have upgraded our timing equipment and have new leadership (like me) that is working diligently to put on the best possible events for everyone. Come check us out..
Please let me know if there are any questions or concerns about TAMSCC events, I'd be happy to discuss anything.

Testdriver - didn't know about the coupons. I'll have to track one down, as I always attend one or two of your autocrosses every year.
Good work on the surface prep; it really made a difference.
I realize that your schedule is somewhat limited by the University, but if you are interested in coordinating with the clubs in the DFW area, you can probably work-out at least one weekend where you can attract a large contingent of DFW autocrossers. Talk to Jerrett Jan (jrj512) about a weekend when the big clubs aren't scheduled, and we'll be happy to publicize the event locally.
SAMMM is a moderator who can add your events to our autocross calendar. I'd be glad to see them on there, as I've missed a few when I neglected to search your forum.
