Yea I kind of figured that, but Im a white guy who when going into any authentic Vietnamese place gets the music stops and everyone turns and looks kinda thing haha. The East Plano Que Huong is close to my house and they know me.. and the pho is really good too!Quote:

Indian food is hit or miss for me here in Dallas.
I had good food at India Palace, but when I went to the one everyone likes off of 75/beltline area it was all goo and naan. I'm not a fan of 13 goo choices with some naan to slop it up with. Give me something with some substance.
I like Masala Wok for closeness [at 121/Preston] (and they make a not anywhere near authentic "tandoori wrap" [with cheese!] that's really good). There's also a place off Coit just north of Park on the W. side of the road (now called 'Rice2Roll' or something dumb like that) which was good for lunches when I worked in the area. They make a garlic naan (thing garlic bread meets naan) that was quite tasty!
Hard to be a snob about broth with noodles & stuff in it, but sure ;). I've never been to Pho Bac. Any good?Quote:

I'm no expert or anything, but of the (few) Pho places I've tried Pho Bac is my fave by far.
Rick, I think you're right about Kalachandji's qualifying. Great food, and unmatched atmosphere. Madras Pavillion (Belt Line / Coit) is also vegetarian Indian and pretty good.
I've had good entrées at Masala Wok and the Londoner, but I prefer the variety on a buffet. My favorite was Taj Mahal off Northaven/75... but the owners opened Mumtaz on Campbell near 75, so that gets my vote.

Looking at this thread reminds me of how much I don't eat out. I need to check out some of these suggestions!!
Tex-Mex: Desperados on middle Greenville. A family favourite for about three decades, now.
Pizza: For you west-siders, check out Buffalo Bros. Good beer selection, too, including Rahr on tap. :D
Steak: I rather liked III Forks, though it's a little on the spendy side for my cheap ass.
If you ever happen to be in Chicagoland, definitely check out the Weber Grill!! Absolutely amazing!
Basic burger: Jake's
Seafood: Mainstream on Preston near Forest. Been years since I went, but the grilled salmon and bread bowl gumbo plates were both excellent.
There is a bar just south of downtown Dallas called Lee Harvey's Voted best onion rings in Dallas at one point. I concur.
My eating out of late is based on tolerance of large-ish groups... We usually take a dozen+...
Italian: Paesano's - 14th Place & 75 behind El Paso
Asian (with lots of Thai influence): Asia Grill next to Cafe Brazil at Coit/190. BYOB, we usually go there every Sunday around 6:00 with our cycling crew.
Burgers: JC's hands down, but I more often want a burger on Sunday, so it's usually Scotty P's
Mexican: El Norte. Food is middlin' to ok, but the chips and salsa are fabulous. But ask my friend Greg about the day that he got the last Negro Modelo...
Ice Cream: Paciugo. Ok... I blame my buddy Charles for this, but I may be addicted.
Chicken: Babe's in Roanoke. The others will do, but you have to go to Roanoke at least once.
BBQ: Clark's. Marshall's will do if it needs to be local. Tuesday's at Marshall's are fabulous, as Tuesday is free fried pie day. TCB approved!
Burgers: Jake's in Uptown or Addison
BBQ: Sonny Bryan's
Steakhouse: Capital Grille (even tho I always order the swordfish). Morton's is great too, even better reheated the following day, lol
Cheesesteaks: Texadelphia
Italian: Porta di Roma in downtown Dallas
Mexican: Mi Cocina
Pizza: The Tomato in Denton, RIP :(
Gas Station: Chef Point Cafe in Watauga
My absolute favorite meal in Dallas is from Patry's on Lovers. It's in a tiny little house east of celebration on the north side of the street. All of the apps I've had are fantastic. The pepper steak is amazing. It's the best steak I've had in Dallas (I've been to a lot of the "fancy" ones, Ruth's Chris, Bob's, Del Friscos, Pappas, Nick and Sams, etc.). Nothing comes close to the pepper steak at Patry's. I've had it 4 or 5 times and every time it's perfect.
About the only place I enjoy eating at in DFW is Al's Hideaway on Preston and Beltline. They have great pizza.
Otherwise, I really miss the restaurants in Austin. Seems like almost everything here is part of some gigantic chain.
