Sorry, I forgot to post it up. The timing belt tensioner pulley had smashed its way through the timing cover, there was wiring cut all over, car had 280k+ miles on it, had a salvage title from front end damage, needed at least three new tires, the PS pump was leaking like a seive, the shocks looked blown, the speakers were blown, it had a lead acid battery, and had been repainted (badly), as you mentioned. If I had a garage of my own to work on it in and maybe a little more money for tires and possibly a new block, I would have taken it for about 750, but as it is right now, I have no garage or that much extra cash I may need to fix that many things right off the bat.
I'm hoping something will pop up in the next week or so, since I have both days off next weekend. I only get the full weekend off every other week.
edit: oooh, showed up on cl just now. http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/3701588639.html

Going to check out a 93 tonight or tomorrow. It's got 187 on the clock, hard dog roll bar, original owner sort of with clean blue title (dad gave it to daughter who let it sit, then gave it to her brother), timing belt and water pump have been done "recently", top is good, and it only needs front tires (cheap), alignment (free), rear brakes (including pads and rotors he never installed with the car), and a little washing off, according to the guy.
He originally asked 2500 and I accidentally bargained him down to 2000. I just said that 2500 and 2200 were more than I have, and he offered me 2000. Hell, I'll eat ramen for a week for that kind of a deal.

Well, I had that 93 in the bag, but I was driving out to Keller tonight to pick it up and pay like we agreed yesterday and tried calling him, and he never picked up or replied to my texts. Oh well.
A dude on reddit the other day posted this one up as for sale: http://texoma.craigslist.org/cto/3695895452.html I'm hoping he will call me tomorrow in the morning so that I can maybe drive up there tomorrow and check it out/buy it. I was also considering calling this dude and trying the "here's a was of cash, take it or leave it" with the cash I had already taken out for the 93, but if the guy from reddit comes through, that would be a pretty good deal too.

plus youd be having the 1.8

FINALLY, I got one :D
It's a black 95 with a clattering from the trans and a pretty bad oil leak. They just rebuilt the engine with new gaskets, bearings, and seals, and it worked fine when they test drove it. The dude they sold it to drove it to ft worth and called them to say it had these new problems. They took it back and parked it since they were moving their shop at the time and didn't want to deal with it. They let it go for 900 bucks because they say they just don't have the time to mess with it. They haven't even gotten it up on a lift to see where the oil is spewing from yet. Luckily the dude offered to tow it to my job for me, which I took him up on, so I'm gonna put it up after work tomorrow and give it a look (after I mop up the trail of oil that will probably be there after I'm done bringing it in...).
I'm hoping the rattling will be something simple like they forgot to tighten the clutch or something, since it only makes noise when in gear. If not, there's a guy at work who was already going to sell me a transmission to swap into the 93 with a locked up transmission I WAS going to go look at today until she didn't reply to my inquiry this morning.
I guess you can lock this thread now, since I'm not really "looking" anymore haha

Before they lock it up...just wanted to say congrats
