Going on the 3rd day in a row with no mail delivery...My office in FL FedEx overnighted me some needed documents for delivery by 10:30am yesterday, but of course I'm still waiting on that too. Awesome.
UNT is still sending me messages that it's closed. Would be good, but I'm already missing every Wednesday's programming class, and our first lab was supposed to be today. So now I will have to play a week's catch up instead of just the usual 2 days.
I only missed an hour of work the other day from the blackouts. Working from home for a company in Florida sucks - I can never call out for a snow day. "Luckily" most of my customers are in the midwest or northeast so I've been all but completely dead.
Oh, and the dogs *finally* are OK with going outside again, so that's a plus. Stupid not used to snow little dogs.
Just got the email, 4 days straight now. Think I'm going to try and walk to the new Cinemark movie theater down the street just to get out of the freaking house.
The roads down here are fairly decent today. I ventured down Garland Road near White Rock Lake for lunch - no problemo.
Still a crapshoot around Plano. Huge stretches of clear concrete followed by inexplicable 3/4 sheets of ice.
Ventured to work today, wasn't too bad. Sadly car couldn't make it back up the driveway into the garage.
Had enough of sitting around, ventured out to get some food around downtown Frisco. Still ice but under 25 mph no problem. Took the loaner automatic base model Mini.
Been hanging around the house for the most part. Got cabin fever yesterday and rolled over to Home Depot for paint and frog tape (shit works!). Even ventured out to the local honky tonk last night for a couple beers and pool after the wife finally got sick of me (can't believe it took 2 days!), but there were some big ice patches in the shady areas along Bear Creek Rd, and no shoulders before the ditch.
Times like this make me feel pretty smart about owning a 20 year-old Chevy PU w/ a 5-speed. Here's the reasoning:
1) manual tranny = launch in 3rd, no wheel spin, even on ice.
2) Fiberglass bed lid = extra weight on rear axle, storage for lotsa recovery gear, cement bags, etc.
3) 5000 lbs curb weight = excellent family protection, impact-absorbing mass
4) $1000 investment = not devastating if the worst happens.
5) 20 year old truck = other drivers know you don't give 2 shits and steer clear.
It's snowing again, dammit!
yes it is. Still ice under it -- slick as 'ell.
mmm oour light dusting is now about 4 inches and stil coming down.
I measured 5 inches of snow this morning in Murphy. Between that, the patchy ice still on the roads, and the prospect of another day in an office that's only 50 degrees, I punted and I'm going to work from home again today.
Last night we got enough snow that it comes up to Molly's belly. She's officially in "f*** you I'm holding it" mode.
Got out again last night and it was fine except for a few squirrelly bridges (and the guy who pulled out in front of me). Should've hit the grocery store while I was out... I'm out of eggs. Oh well.
NBC should trade in their weather guesser for a younger model with a big rack and a slutty disposition. If they're going to be wrong, at least there's an upside.
Five inches in Valley Ranch and no signs of life beyond two sets of rabbit tracks across the yard.
Chris
3" in GP on 360....I took the truck out for a minute this morning. 2WD just sat there and spun...4X4HI went like there was nothing on the ground. Scary part is not being able to see the ice under all the snow. Waiting to see if I have to go in to work today. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Have about 6 inches in Frisco. Extremely slick with the ice under the snow.
Well, they've kinda got a foot in the door with traffic girl Tammy Dombeck... aka Mooseknockers. ::Banana::

WTF. I flew in from a week in NYC to this?
Jerry is going to need more face work. I'll bet he aged 20 years this week. ::BaHump::
I think a higher power is trying to jack with Ben Roethlisberger visit to Arlington! ::Angel::
Stupid weather not even going to try to go to the world headquarters today...
I made it to work this morning from Rowlett all the way to Harry Hines driving between 20 to 30 MPH. On the way I saw one Mustang barely able to get moving and another one facing the wrong direction. I also saw a sivler Miata w HT on Harry Hines. She barely able to get moving after stopping at the light! I have been driving my wife's CRV going to work everyday this week!
I am all for 'thinning out the gene pool'. However, don't mess up and block the traffic. There was this ricer in a CIVIC pulled right in front of a 18-wheelers. The trucker blared his honk and was forced almost into the concrete barrier and only a feet or two from rear-ended that ricer!
Made it in to work today, but robably shouldn't have... The roads from Euless to Coppell were as bad or worse than tuesday.
Some asshole approaching me in a 'redneck hauler' f250 decide that he had more of a right to the center a two lane road with ditches and trees than I did. Had to dump the Element almost into the ditch to keep his cattle guard out of my plastic fenders. Somehow I managed to save it and end up back on the road. I wanted to u-turn and yell at his stupid ass, but I was lucky enough to still be driving straight.
5" and counting in my yard in DeSoto...
5+ inches of snow in Rowlett.
The last couple of days I've been able to go into work (slow but I got there). Today I tried as I didn't have to be in till 10 and I got out the back of the complex and pretty much went backwards from there. Ended up getting lucky and 3 guys stopped and help me push the car into the apartment complex when it wouldn't make it up the entrance on it's own. Hopefully the sun will come out and also the 40's tomorrow will make it better.
It's at both of our dogs' head here. Unfortunately the one is too young to hold it :( She actually LOVES the snow...but so much she'd rather play in it than poop or pee in it. The older dog just hates it this year - but he deals with it once you throw him in it.
I just couldn't resist taking the BMW out one last time to play in the snow. 5+ inches here in Valley Ranch so I was doing my best impression of a snow plow.
Man I like that BMW :)
i saw your car over in valley ranch wed night turning into red river from macarthur ... i was in my friend's lexus suv. now, i think i want an e30 for a daily/winter car lol
Dammit, Justin! I was just learning to cope with this cabin fever and was gonna keep the Miata clean and dry. (Was.)
^ that looks expensive ... swap & all ... lol

My hat's off to sammm and all you other full time work-from-homers
Until this week, I had no idea what it was like to sit in front of a computer in your jammies for 96 straight hours
