I am thinking about ditching the landline. I might keep it for the house alarm, but cellular is an option for a small monthly. In true TCB fashion I am trying to see which is cheaper. It also might be nice in a longer power outage.
Is it true that ATT has a super basic / pay by the call phone line for $10-$20 per month? I can't find anything on it. I wanted to be informed before I called. Right now I am inclined to just shut it off.

ATT does offer a cheap monthly land line.......I got my home bill lowered about $25. If I remember correctly there are unlimited incoming calls but outgoing calls are limited to a certain number, I don't remember how many but if I go over my limit it is a flat .08 cents a call (for local calls). I didn't want to give it up completely and the flat rate is $5.55 a month plus taxes. They call it a "measured rate residence line".

The FTC made ATT offer naked DSL as a condition of them buying Bell South, it's been available for about 10 months and ATT has been slow about letting anyone know about it, like their own employees, it took me an hour & half to get them to agree to sell it to me, then in true SBC/ATT fashion, a tech stole my pair last month when he hooked up a new neighbor, he listened to my line, no dial tone and gave it away, took 4 days to get it back.

Lots of phone calls and multiple visits to my house by the fine folks at AT&T. But since the last AT&T guy visited and replaced everything (Boxes, Router, and some cable) we seem to be running OK. Knock on wood.

You can do the Internet separate from the TV, and I still have my old AT&T phone that is separately billed from the U-Verse.

My install went well, I think they have a lot of the bugs worked out. they had to run some wires inside the house, that took the most time but it was reasonable. Once all the cable was run, the tech only took about 1/2 hour to get it all up and running. I've experienced very little pixelation.
Dave04: Why would you want to U-verse for internet w/o TV? Especially if you can buy the DSL w/o the phone service now?

if they are offering you u-verse ... that means they upgraded the fiber to your node ... so if they really can get u-verse to your house (requires a minimum of 80 mb at the house) then they should easily be able to offer u a better dsl package, they both run on the same line ... uverse is not like FIOS with fiber all the way to the house ... it is a fiber to the node then copper to the house service ... kinda sux if you ask me ... with an even shorter transmission range than dsl ... if i remember the cutoff for distance from the node was like 1250 feet or some crap ..... so 1 guy can get it but their neighbor cant in many instances
