Pepper Spray

My wife had a minor incident on the Dart Rail today with some 'thug.' I won't get into the details since it pisses me off so much, but I have been thinking about getting her some pepper spray lately and after this im not letting her back on the train without packing something.

Anyway does anyone know of a good confirmed and tested OC spray that's carryable and won't break the bank? I have been searching, but I have only been able to find company sponsored tests, I don't buy those.

Oh by the way we found out not too long ago shes pregnant. I wish she could carry a pistol, but im sure her company would frown on that. I think im going to bump up a CHL a few notches on the to do list, it seems this city is sliding further every day...

Where does she work? I can't carry at FedEx (not even leave it in the car), but I can carry at the hobby shop.

She works at a software company in the Citiplace building (huge pink building off 75) in uptown. I doubt she can carry anything above pepper spray or a stun gun.

Wait...you cant carry a pistol...or do they have some pansey ban on pepper spray too?? Ive heard about Fedex even banning CHLs from carrying in their cars...stupid, stupid rule.

Yeah, doubtful they'd let even a law-abiding citizen with a CHL carry in there, but it might be worth a try to ask.

I carry a handgun almost everywhere but FedEx... sucks because I have to leave it at home because I can't even leave it in the car at work; it's on their property ::BaHump::

Actually it's kind of a relief to know some of the idiots I work with aren't packing. :geek:

THIS might work if she's got room in her purse... a buddy of mine bought some of this for home defense - comes in a 12-16 oz aerosol can.

This is the stuff you want. If she's concerned she might need to use it ON a dart vehicle or other enclosed space, the foam is probably the best choice. Using ANY of the product in an enclosed space is going to mean that EVERYONE will want to get out real darn quick, though...

Probably risking getting this bumped to Gasbags, but... Concealed is concealed. Yes, her employer can, by policy, restrict her ability to carry a handgun. Read the paper from HR, don't ask for it.

The concealed carry course & license are a great idea. Even if you don't plan to carry, they let the people who make the law know where you stand.

From the reading I've done, the foam is better because it doesn't blow back in your face. Put it in the holster that has a key ring. If all else fails, she can use the spray as a handle and the keys as a flail.

Not to start a discussion debating the relative merits of defense spray...

The DOWN side of foam is that it doesn't move. That means you have to be more precise in placement. Getting it above and below the eyes isn't going to do a whole lot.

The UP side of foam is that it doesn't move... If you get a good dose on the eyes, your assailant will instinctively wipe it off... which shoves it right into the tear ducts where you want it.

I would probably try and get some mace if it were me, pepper spray doesnt do much...or at least the people I have seen get sprayed seemed fine.
Stun guns have been linked to deaths and you run the risk of someone coming after you guys with a law suit....but if you have a good legal reason to use one I see it as the best deffense when you dont want to or can't carry a gun.

Glad she is ok.

Ok so based on what I have read so far I have decided to get her a kechain unit and a foam unit for her purse. This Fox Labs OC spray is apparently some nasty stuff, exactly what im looking for, for the maximum retribution...err I mean protection::EvilBana

I don't feel like paying shipping and waiting 2 weeks for the stuff, does anyone know of a Law Enforcement Store around the Grapevine area, or any place that would carry this stuff?? I want to pick it up tomorrow if they're open Sundays.

I bought my girlfriend keychain pepperspray at autozone for $10. Money well spent, but sometimes she pretends like she's gonna spray me with it. . . .

Yep, most incidents usually happend on the drive to & from work. You'd be surprised how many crazy run ins I've had just going to the store or to grab drive through down the street!

just a thought ,my wife works for a bank and NO ONE is allowed {other than a police officer } can carry any sort of protection on bank property.
If she works in a bank building she may be restricted from carrying anything.
Now what the bank doesn't know is one think but if for whatever reason she was discovered to have it then she could be terminated or forbidden to come onto bank property again.
What that does allow is a door to be opened for a law suit if something does happen,because they have prevented her from protecting herself goping to and from work
I work for a company that has the same rule,did work with a guy that did CHL,he took this up with the company and boy did that get folks in a tither
So she may want to kind of mention if it is allowed or not before just doing it
