6.5" will fit, no problem. I got some Kenwoods on Fleabay for $35. Just like these - LINKIE
What??
Crutchfields shows the following sizes for a door speakers for a '94 Miata????
- 5 1/4"
- 6 1/4"
- 6 3/4"
Stock speakers are 5 1/2".
So how did Sammmm put the Fleabay 6.5" in his Miata?

I just measured one of the old ones that came out of the Miata, least I think that's where they came from.
OEM's are 5.25". There is more mounting flange than you need. 6.5's fit....you will just have to drill a few new holes to mount them.
Door panels will fit over the Kenwood's without modification BTW.
I would like to hear them tonight, too. However, can you bring something to play on them besides your usual Culture Club? I don't care about your special dance you do for I'll Tumble For Ya! -- I do not want to hear it.
One of my door speakers just blown. I am a totally noob when it comes to car audio. How hard is to replace them?
I am using the stock tape receiver BTW.
I"ll give those kenwoods a try! Thanks for the TCB tip.
I should be able to handle removing door panels and drilling new holes. With the A/C gone, at least I have some music to go with the sweating.... :punchout:
Sweet found a set of the Kenwood KFC-1660S on Ebay with shipping was just $27.80!!! ::Banana::

This should be interesting tonight!
My mom's 1991 miata came with 6 3/4" speakers. I replaced them with a set of Pioneer speakers after the original paper cones busted. I think I paid $90 for them at the time from Crutchfield. Back in '94, it was a very uncommon size and there were very few to choose from.
Speakers showed up today!
Quick question how do you tell what the Positive (+) and Negative (-) wires are on the speakers?? Last owner installed the current speakers poorly...
You could check the phase polarity with an ohmmeter, if you have one, if not you could use a test light (comes with most stereo installs). Or, worse case, you could just hook the wires up to the speaker without checking. There will be some sound degradation, but in the LOW LOW decimal range, unless you have amps/crossovers it won't matter.
Good stuff TexasCoder!
Google found me this also - http://mazda-speed.com/faq/audio/#90
Sounds much much better!! ::rock::
Thank you! I am new here so I want to contribute when I can :-)
That is a great find on the wire color codes! I printed that bad boy out and added it to the miata's log folder. You know, I just glanced through my shelf out in the garage and found my DEI Schematics/Wire Code book for 1989-1997 Imports. Sorry man, if I had been thinking I would have checked there for you first. I got so excited about being able to contribute to the forum that I lost all common sense :)
POS Racing, after a month, how do you like them?
