cost no object? hoho's (easy question) ;)
Hey way to edit the post title!
;)
I like the way the RE-11's feel over the Star Specs, but I don't know if they are any faster and I have not tried the others
Two top picks ( Dunlop StarSpec and Yokohama AD08 ) have rebates at TireRack: Link
Only driven on the Star Spec like it alot, but most likely give the AD08 a try next since I like to try new stuff.
Rumor has it $100 rebate for RE-11 is coming April 1st!
I like to run on Tillamoook 3yr Special Reserve.
Check back after the Tour this weekend.
RE-01R still my fav. Star Specs are pretty good but the turn in is a bit mushy. Interested in trying the RE-11.
The NT05's behaved very well on Goofygrin's Evo X as well, I was pleasantly surprised.
I'm torn between a few different tires on tire rack right now.
With the new Falken Azeni K due out this week the remaining original compound Azenis are getting really cheap. If you don't need the latest cutting edge they are still a hell of a tire. Under $50 in stock size when you buy 4.

Great Thread. Just got some 15" wheels and now I need to decide on which AX tires I'm going with. So far I haven't been able to find cheese in a 205/50R15 though. ::Rimshot:
Well, ST was Hankooks in 1st, followed by Yokohamas in 2nd through 4th this weekend.
STS was Toyo / Toyo / Toyo / Bridgestone
STX was Bridgestone / Dunlop / Dunlop / Dunlop
STU was Dunlop / Dunlop / Bridgestone / Dunlop
STR was Toyo in the top four spots
Moral of the story - you really can't go wrong with any of the top street tires out there right now. Hankook, Yokohama, Toyo, Bridgestone, and Dunlop were all on cars in the trophies this weekend.
I really like my current 'Stone, but I would be on Kumho if they worked on the Nats surface. While the Toyos were not as responsive as the Stones, I really liked there stick and I was very confident on them, but I did not like their quick wear.
For those of you keeping score, here are the current prices at Tire Rack (205/50/15's) -
That's a heck of a deal on the RE-11's!
- Star Specs - $472 - $50 rebate (until April 17) = $422 shipped
- RE-11's - $432 - $100 rebate (begins April 1) = $332 shipped
- Kumho XS - $403 shipped
A few of you voted 'Other'. What are they?
How much are the 'Kooks? (RS-3)
BTW, I'm suprised by the price differential between the Bridgestones and the Dunlops. In 255/40-17s, the Bridgestones are almost $200/set more than the Dunlops!
That is some interesting pricing these days. When we bought our current 195 RE-11s, we paid $600 shaved and shipped, which was a great deal. Our best deal last season on 205 Kumhos was $400 shaved and shipped.
205/50R15 Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08 @ $510.04 - $75 rebate thru April 30th
I agree, I would love to pick up a set of the stones, but there is no way the performance difference is going to be worth $200 a set. I guess I will just have to order a set of star specs and put them in the garage for a few months while I wear out my current ones.
See that's my problem too.
In 275/35/18 (from TireRack):
Star Spec: $240/tire (-$50 rebate on 4)
Kumho XS: $224/tire
AD08 (265/35/18, no 275): $263 (-$75 rebate on 4)
RE-11 (265/35/18, no 275): $279
NT-05 (locally, sweetheart deal): $165ish/tire + tax (call it kind of a wash with shipping).
While I feel the star spec is a better tire (I've not been on the others, but I assume they are all fairly good), I simply can't justify $50+ per tire
I know, boo freakin' hoo ;)
STS was actually Toyos in 1st through 4th and 6th. Neal's listed tire is incorrect. And in 15" the toyos you want are the 195's.
$437.39 shipped from onlinetires.com
I am contemplating Toyos for my next tire. I just did not like the wear of the 225s that we previously had. We'll see...
I really like the Ventus R-S3
I chose cheese. I can't say I have a favorite AX tire. Ken and Iain have yet to teach me how to AX.....
Just ordered a set of AD08s! Despite the higher price compared to RE-11, I picked them because I believe they are better dual purpose (track/autocross).
The latest Grassrootsmotorsports magazine teases with this shown at the Tokyo Auto Show: Link
I read a post by Andy Hollis about RE-11 does not handle heat very well. It might or might not be a problem for you on track tho.
The Kumho XS seems to like heat, so that might be a good track tire?
Like others have said, they are all great tires just have different strengths and weaknesses.
I'm coming from old 615 Azenis and haven't had any issues. But I *am* interested in more sidewall compliance, so would be interested to see a list ordered by squishiness...
toyo = soft widewall and wallowy turns IMO.
RE-11 rebate Link
Four Re11s on the way for $332 shipped after rebate!!! I was wondering what to get the boy for graduation. The rebate card should do it if it shows up in time. He'll sure be disappointed if it doesn't.
