I registered for this event and wondered if anyone else was signed up. This will be the first track event for me since I added the Tein Mono's. Any suggestions as to where to set them? I have also never run on the 1.3 so advice is welcomed.

I will be there! Look for a skinny Asian guy in a 94 Red Miata.
Alan
I won't be there, but here's some video from the 1.3 to give you a look at the track.
I really enjoy the 1.3. I think it's my favorite short track at MSR.
I will call John@apex and see if he'll let me instruct, hop in your car and help you out.
Hmm I may cruise out there! Was going to sign up but decided to save some money and wait for the next one! Blew way too much money on my car this last week lol! Wallet was not happy :( haha
The 1.3 is certainly different compared to the 1.7. Take it easy as there are lots of "gotcha's"........especially if you go off. Can you say rocks. It's really fun once you learn it, and I miss playin on it :(
my car has the "rickity-boat" mod....
The day started with problems but MER stepped up and got me back on the track. My first experience with these guys/gals but can't say enough about how nice these people are. The 1.3 is a blast to drive but sure would be nice to have a few more horses for those up hill climbs. It was HOT but all had a great day. Oh yea, I also broke a tooth. I told my dentist I thought I had a crack in that tooth! Not much satisfaction in " I told you so".
i chew gum sometimes it keeps me from grinding my teeth while driving if im really pushing it, despite the dangers of getting in an accident and inhaling it, in which case for corners or braking, or any situation which are unsettling i put the gum between my front teeth so it doesn't go down the wrong tube :p. i'd rather pick gum off my helmet than another dentist visit as well
wow! if your grinding/breaking teeth off when driving, you might wanna pick another sport, or try some relaxation techniques! lol
Bobby it was nice meeting you, glad your car was ok to finish the day.
Did not think power would play a major role on lap times on the 1.3 until I compared data with my friend in a S2000. The short straights come out of slow hairpin turns and the uphill into the towel bowl, really help the high HP cars gain on momentum cars.
I managed a low 1:17 in my miata, will post some videos up for the track experts to criticize.
Alan
HP does help on the 1.3. The last data I looked at I was running mid 1:08. Caught a Green RX8 and a Black Miata without issue.
Here's a clip from the last session of the day, where the track and tires are steaming HOT.
Couple of things I tried differently compares to my earlier sessions. Took the tight line through the towel bowl, and stayed in third on the downhill session before the left kink to concentrate on carrying more speed, instead of worrying about the 4-3 downshift. Looking at the data, the tight line is tiny bit faster than diving deep into the towel bowl and take a wider line out.......
MSR track experts, please feel free to criticize my lines. I would like to get into the 1:15 next time....
Thanks,
Alan
Nice driving Alan. Love that 720p in full screen mode.
Horsepower makes a big difference on the 1.3, since two of the most important acceleration zones are uphill coming off of 2nd gear corners.
Best I've run out there was a 1:11.08 with a 140 lb. passenger. My car should be capable of a mid/low 1:10 in current configuration on light fuel with no ballast in the right seat.
I can catch everyone coming down the hill to the bottom of the track, but I need another 1k rpms in 3rd, since I'm on the limiter before the braking zone, and there is nowhere to change up coming down the hill.
I need to get out on that track again, its been almost 3-years.
what datalogging software is that?
Racechrono with a 5hz Bluetooth GPS. It's free and you can compare laps by looking at gps data, does 80% of what performance box does.
Racechrono FTW! Too bad for you iphone peeps it only works with a Windows Mobile device.
link to the cheapest, jankiest Windows Mobile compatible device available?
check the phones Racechrono supports here....

Any cheap real 5HZ bluetooth gps should work. Add a OBD bluetooth dongle for rpm and throttle position if your car is OBD2.
