TX Region SCCA Autocross #7 - Sunday, September 29, 2013 - TMS Bus Lot

7th autocross of the year: TX Region SCCA Solo #7 - Sunday, September 29th.

Where? Texas Motor Speedway Bus Lot in Fort Worth, TX.

Event #6 Schedule:

•Registration & Tech Inspection: 7:30am - 8:30am (PLEASE DON’T BE LATE)
(If you are new to TX Region SCCA events, please be AT THE SITE by 7:30am)

•Course opens: 8:00am (approx.)

•Novice Walkthru: 8:30am (approx.)

•MANDATORY Drivers Meeting: 9:00am (approx.)

•First Runs Start 9:30am (Approx.)

•Trophies (and BEER ) approx. 30 minutes after conclusion of runs. (approx. 3:30 PM)

Online Registration closes Friday night, September 27th at 11:59pm.

**Walk up registrations ARE allowed on site but will be charged an additional $5.

I should give this autocross "stuff" a try!

Yeh, I don't know if anyone is interested but I just bought a GoPro Black addition camera that I'd like to start renting out. I do have the suction cup mount, remote and all the addition stuff. I'm meeting Sammmmmm Sunday morning and can delivery it to the track. I would need you to return it to my house in Haslett (about 15-20 minutes from the track) Lets say 20 bucks for the day. PM me in interested and we can talk.

My Miata will not be running (well enough) on Sunday. Does anyone have an STR co-drive available?

Looks like we may need to bring the rain jacket... between 50-90% chance of rain depending on the forecast you look at.

At least it won't be 200 degrees!::Banana::

I'm in. Still driving the red MINI in Novice STX. Someday I'll bring the Miata.

Based on the current forecast, I'm out, but I'll check again tomorrow. AM T-storms at TMS is just no fun for me. Hopefully they will peter-out sat night.

Don't hold your breath. NOAA says 90% overnight and 80% on Sunday before 1pm. Watch out for spinning Genesi...

Yep. Normally don't mind running in the rain, but TMS tends to be zero-grip when there is actual rain (more than sprinkles). With a no T/C car, it'll be an exercise in slo-mo frustration.

We had a rainy SCCA event there last year and the driving part was kind of fun. You certainly had to be on your game.

So no matter how hard it rains the race will go on? No concerns for the corner workers standing in the rain while spinning cars are all around?

As long as there is not lightning the race will go on. I have had to work and race in more deluges than I can remember.

Its fun, makes it harder for the corner workers to run away from you.

I recall last year's event, when it was raining so hard the cones were getting moved by the wakes from the cars. That was too much water for my car to put ANY power down. It was like watching JFo at Mesquite Stadium! :punchout: Damp isn't bad; pouring rain sucks.

Edit: Dave Finfrock claims the rain will be gone by 8 am Sunday.

Let's just be happy there was a scheduling conflict with TMS and this event had to get moved to the bus lot. Out of curiosity, if this event were to happen on the infield, would it still go on as planned if it were raining? Brad, Jerrett, can you chime in?

I remember running/working the road course in the rain....it would go on.

According to the Weather Channel hourly forecast for zip code 76177 the following are the chance of rain:

Sat 3pm - 50%
4 to 5pm - 70%
6pm to Sun 2am - 60%
3am to 4am - 50%
5am - 40%
6 to 8 - 30%
9am - 20%
10am to 2pm - 10%

So the first group going out will dry the track for the other 3 heats. And the run order is:

Run 1 / Work 3
XP, BP, BS, DSP, ES, ESP, FM, STC, STX

Run 2 / Work 4
AS, ASP, BSP, KM, FS, SSP, SMF, STS, STU, T, W


Run 3 / Work 1
AM, BM, CM, CS, DM, EP, FP, FSP, GS, GP, HS, STF, X


Run 4/ Work 2
CP, CSP, DP, DS, EM, FSAE, SM, SSM, SS, STR

Honestly, it would not surprise me if they went back to 3 heats for this potentially wet event. Last time it rained hard out at TMS (I think it was one of the first events back in 2012), they went to two heats and did 6 runs.

Yep got pictures of my car on course in a downpour on the infield.

This ain't NASCAR its autocross. ;-)

Fun event today, and perfect weather! Good to see everyone and to be back in a first gen. :burnrubr:

Great course Jerret! That was a real make you think layout.

Thanks Brad! There was another 1/2 second out there but I threw it away on my last run pushing out too wide in the 1st big left hander. Still very happy considering how far off the pace these tires were at lincoln. And nice driving to you too!

As far as the course. I thought it was a solid B+/ A-. No real complaints other than the surface. It was easy to figure out but challenging to drive. I didn't mind the pin turn too much. The finish left a little to be desired, but overall a great day of autocrossing! Can't wait for the road course!

I can't wait for the next jfo course ��
