I thought Hondas were non-interference.
^Don't think so...I'm betting there are some bent valves at least.
The J35 in my Odyssey is interference. I don't know about the B series. I have no experience with broken timing belts on Hondas. Fords Escorts, BTDT.
All of that said, since they're going to pull the head to check it... anything extra I should have them do while they have it out? Obviously, I'm getting a new timing belt and water pump. Does anyone know of anything else I should do while it's apart?
How many miles on it? Not much to do on the bottom end, unless you want them to pull pistons and such. New crank seal?
It's not possible to bend a valve without punching a hole in a piston?

Yeah, should have mentioned... it's an '01... so it does have a belt.
The color is what Honda calls (among other things) Electron Blue... I like the color as well.
I'm hoping it's just a head issue and not the bottom end... I've heard you can swap in a B18 head that has better flow and get some performance gains, but apparently, on the CRV you have to change several of the other bits as well and it gets expensive.
UPDATE: Just heard from the shop. They didn't find that there was any catastrophic damage to the head. Their recommendation is to put a new belt on it and then measure compression on each of the cylinders and see what we have.

Probably the cheapest route to start with...if compression is good, drive it.
Pay for a timing belt job hoping for a miracle?…..I'd close the valves and do a leak down first.

They pulled the head and sent it off to a local machine shop to have it checked over...
I've asked for the compression and leakdown test once it's back on the car as well...
We'll see...
UPDATE: Well... I think I dodged a bullet...
Compression and leak down tests were consistent across all cylinders and while a little low, not bad for a 200K motor...
New timing belt and water pump installed and it's running great... I think I'll set the replacement interval closer to 70k miles for the next timing belt.

Great news. The timing belt interval on my Odyssey J35A4 is 105,000 miles. Mine lasted 115,000 before I chickened out and changed it.
When you go to pick it up stop and get a lottery ticket while your luck is so good!! ;-)
