Hi everybody, got me a 99

Hello everyone, I have been sitting on the sidelines watching all this crazy stuff for a few weeks and thought I would jump in. I have a 99 I just finished fixing after a close encounter with the rear of a truck........loaded with everything but the sport package, hardtop too. 82k, 5 speed, some new Kumho's I need to scuff in, etc. All stock in the power dept........I had a Datsun 2000 Roadster for 30 years so am not new to this foreign convertable thing..........most of you young guys are going Datsun 2000 Roadster?? about now I know. Anyway I hope to make it to a Wed night get-together soon. See you on the road, Craig Bush

Welcome aboard! I almost bought a Datsun 2000 a few years ago (but I bought another 1st gen RX-7 instead :rolleyes: ) - you sure don't see too many of those old Datsuns around...

I still wish I had one. That Datsun 2000 roadster is pretty sweet. Why'd you get rid of it?

Welcome. I have owned an MGA 1600, a Triumph 650 Thunderbird and a BSA 650 Lighting. I have also ridden a James 125 and an Ariel Square Four. Off road bikes have been an OSSA 250 Plunker and a Montesa Cota 125, among others. Some of us have been to more than one rodeo.

I grew up with my parents owning 2 Datsun 1200's. One in Orange and the other in Midnight Blue.

Not nearly as neat as the Datsun 1600/2000, though.

I was the second owner of my Datsun 2000, I bought it in 74 and sold it in 06........man, I must be old..........drove it until about 76 then marriage, kids, self employment and divorce all conspired for a restoration that was never to be. Sold all the parts I had acquired on Ebay, sold the car to a kid in Plano who has it running (so if you see a baby blue 2000 in Plano its my old car), took my $, bought a crashed 99, fixed it and still have some $ in the bank. I consider the Miata the modern day version of the Datsun Roadster except it rides a lot better, handles a lot better, stops a lot better and the A/C is a lot colder. And yes, I still have my 1996 Honda VFR750 although I hate and never ride in Dallas. I have been taking trips to Arkansas for so long I don't even have to get out the maps, am looking forward to taking the Miata there. thats enough for now, thanks for the welcomes........

Last time I was at the car section of Love Field Antique mall, they had a Datsun like yours on the floor for sale. Sometime in Jan., I think. May still be there... Great car! You'll love your Miata, though! Welcome!!

Wow! Can't believe you sold the Datsun. Sweet little car.

Here is a before pic of my 99...........note the receiver hitch imprint on the bumper cover right above the fog light. The only reason this was totalled by the insurance co was because the ground wires under the headlight were cut............the cost of the engine room harness and labor pushed the repair over the threshold so it was totalled, it had no frame or suspension damage, the air bags were not blown.
Drive the Datsun and then my 99 and you will know why I sold it..........
It was allright in 1975. Things move on, it was time for it to go.

After I bought the car from the insurance company I researched the VIN and found the owner, called him up and had a chat.........he was coming home from work (rush hour), it was raining, tires were fairly worn, stop and go traffic, Suburban stopped and he almost got this Miata stopped before he slid into the back of the SUV (no ABS on the Miata). I drove the car over to his house one Saturday after I repaired it so he could see it and he was like WOW, it looks like the day I bought it. He had a electric hardtop hoist I bought from him and now my hardtop is hanging from my garage ceiling via said hoist, the ultimate in a lazy guys hardtop removal..............
