Okay, so what I thought was a blown intercooler pipe has turned out to be an intake propeller that won't turn/ frozen turbo shaft.
So what are my options? Is there anyone you'd recommend local? Majestic turbos in Waco?

Oh yeah, it's a sleeve bearing Garrett t25 turbo from the older FMII kit.
I had Majestic in Waco rebuild the turbos on my RX-7, many years ago. Upon reinstallation, they ran for about 45 seconds, and then the impeller on the primary turbo spun itself off the prop shaft and broke into a thousand pieces. Needless to say, I was not impressed. :(
Just an FYI. I've heard plenty of good things about them, but make sure they tighten the shaft nuts properly.
Did you have a lubricaton problem to cause the bearing to sieze?
A Volvo friend of mine is rebuilding a turbo right now and was just commenting on how simple of a job it really is. You might want to consider it. I have no experience with this myself so YMMV.
There's a majestic turbo in irving. They will charge you like $200 I believe.
+1... A friend of mine has had very good luck with those guys - I think he talks to a guy named Mike. They also rebuilt the turbo on my old BMW many moons ago...Quote:

Yes, its a local guy here in DFW that is selling the item (dallasimports.net). I'm sure he would be more than willing to let you take a look at it. It is a $100 and like you said it would give you time to try to rebuild yours and in any case you might have a semi-decent spareQuote:

I took mine to Majestic in Iriving last Summer to let them inspect it and they were real honest as he said it looked to be in great condition. He even helped me disassemble it so I could get the outlet housing coated and didn't charge me a cent.
So what problems are you having getting your turbo off? I've had mine off oh at least 20 times so I may be able to help out. The biggest help is to loosen the drivers side motor mount and jack up the motor on that side. This will give you more clearance to pull the turbo off the manifold. If you are having other problems just ask I promise you I can help as I can get my turbo off in about 30 min now.:D
Sharpie, the compressor inlet and outlet on that Chinese turbo will either need adapters or they have to be machined down. That's going to be true of just about any generic T25 though.
We recommend Limit Engineering for turbo rebuilds.

I have one bolt that I just can't get a wrench on. It's the last bolt I need to get this thing off of there. I'm trying to get the pipe off between the turbo and the mid-pipe now and maybe that will allow me to get it off. It's the bottom bolt toward the firewall between the turbo and the manifold. Pretty much everything else is loose or off. ::Rant::
I've never taken a turbo off, Corky sure did manufacture some hard pieces to get wrenches on.
If I ever get it off, I've already contacted Majestic and gave me a rough estimate of $285 to $550.......

But seriously, it is a pain in the arse. I had to take mine off last weekend and I'll be taking it off again when I get the new downpipe this week. That one bolt at the bottom the only thing you can get is an open ended wrench on it. I'd put some liquid wrench or PBBlaster on it and let it sit for a while maybe then if you break it loose you can turn it off with your fingers.
Haha, I've been using the force. Soaked with PB Blaster last night and will buy some stubby wrenches and try again. My arms are sore.

If that's the one I'm remembering, I had to use a stubby box end and an Aggie-fied lever bar (tube) to get that one on. Good luck. If worse comes to worst, you can pull the manifold with the turbo attached and it's way easier to get to the turbo nuts then. ;)

I can't see your manifold from here but that front lower bolt was a cap screw on mine. Again, it took an invented tool (allen wrench and Aggie-fied lever tube #2). If it's the front "bolt", not the front-most mounting hardware (second hole back on the bottom, between the first and second runners), I had to use a shorty open end wrench. I went down between runners 1 and 2 from the top. I could only get about 5 or 10 degrees of movement, then I had to flip the wrench for the next 5 or 10, lather, rinse, repeat. Again, it took an invented lever to get enough force. Lots of fun. Good luck.

I drove it Monday and came back with a coolant leak. I fixed that last night and took it for a good spin. So far no more leak. I drove it to work today, and it runs great.
When I first started it, I was getting A LOT of smoke out of the tailpipe (white), that has decreased a lot, but right at the beginning of boost I see more smoke than I ever have. I'm not sure if when the turbo was frozen it allowed some oil to get into the intercooler and that is what is burning off, or when it was jacked up on just the drivers side so oil got past the rings and that is what's burning off. ??????? Just gonna drive and see what happens.
I changed the pcv when I got home and it's smoking less, but I just feel like it may be too much risk to take it to Hallett. Trying to rule out the turbo as the problem tonight. I'll drive it to work again tomorrow and see what it does.

Where can I get a one-way pcv? I've been to the dealer in denton and they say its the right valve, but doesn't pass the "blow-test" for one-way indication.
Both PCV's that I've bought from Napa (made for the GTX) have not passed the "blow test", but they have decreased the blow-by going into the catch can. The stock pcv is one-way.
As for progress, I'm weighing my options. I may have Jon Day go through my old motor and do another motor swap. yeah!
fyi, mt.net says the blow test is an absolute necessity. I may just hit up gary for a catch can.Quote:
