Top third for Mikey and Jeremy! Man, that's a tough class. Those meanies really piled it on for day two.
3 more TX Region Trophy winners from todays results at the 2012 Nationals...
Amy Fair wins ESPL!! If there was only there were 1 more competitor in the class she would be recieving a Nationals jacket.
Brianne Corn wins 4th place trophy in B-Mod.
And Kenny Baker wins 5th place trophy in C-Stock!
So here’s the Tues/Wed tally for our Texas Region SCCA Soloist at the 2012 Solo Nationals:
(in no particular order)
T 4th C-Stock Kenny Baker, 13th C-Stock Juliann Pokorny, T 1stESP Mark Madarash – 2012 National Champion, T 4th ESP Terry Fair, T 1st ESPL Amy Fair, T 4th B-Mod Brianne Corn, 6thB-Mod Rachel Saunders, T 1st STS David Whitener – 2012 National Champion, T 2nd STS Andrew Haun, 18th STS Bob Neff, 27th STS Steve Eberlein, 28th STS Neal Bellamy, T 1st STSL Kim Whitener – 2012 National Champion, T 2nd STSL Sharon Eberlein, 15th STX Mark Sipe, 37th STX Chris Ledbetter, 16th STR Mike McShane, 18th STR Jeremy Foley, 19th STR Jason Minehart,
Congrats to everyone! I have seen how hard David has worked on his car and setup and driving skills and it has paid off big time.
Correction due on STS. Steve Eberlein 17th, Bob Neff 20th, Neal Bellamy 25th.
Wish I would have had a camera when David came back to grid. Andrew riding the door. Sunroof punched half out. A Kim & David embrace that choked people up. Ran my first STS (then STS2) Nationals the year it was originally a supplemental class. Over the years I have never, ever, seen such a HUGE crowd awaiting the winner and such an enormous round of applause and back slapping for the winner. Great job David & Kim. Well deserved and thanks so much for all both of you have done for us and the STS and solo community.

Thanks to everyone who offered support and advice. The results are obviously dissapointing after starting the event so strongly, but that's one of the lessons of Nats. The experience was excellent, and the competition was unbelievable. Out of the 50+ drivers in STR, at least 40 were capable of winning top pax at a local event around here, so there was zero margin for error. The car performed flawlessly. Even though I have some ideas for further improving the setup options (fine tuning), JRoll and I both agree that the car could have easily been driven to a Jacket finish; we just didn't execute well enough on Day 2.
Tons of information and thoughts to sort-through and process over then next few weeks, but I'm already scheming to return next year and take that trophy I left behind yesterday!
JRoll deserves recognition and props for being able to hop into a totally unfamiliar car on street tires after one local event on gravel and coem close to trophying at Nats. He really helped me out with knowing the ropes at Nats and giving car feedback, not to mention being a ton of fun.
I was proud to be a TX Region member when I was up there. Between all the trophies and jackets being won by our folks and the 20+ who dropped by my grid spot at one point or another to offer support or lend a hand over the two days of racing (Whitener, Hahn, Eberlein,Wortham and Lucas especially), it felt a little like a local event. Good times.

A Z06 is just like a Miata, but with the other half of the motor . . .
Our trip to Lincoln went pretty well. Matt brought home hardware from the pro finale, and I brought home hardware from nats. Matt was really fast in the pro finale - faster than last year's SS national champ (also in a C5 Z06) on the right side course in fact! His 3rd place finish put him ahead of a couple of other past national champs. He had the speed for an 8th place trophy finish at nats, but unfortunately a cone got in the way on day two.
I couldn't seem to find my groove at the pro finale, but things started to click again at nats. My fastest run on day two at nats had a pretty big goof that probably cost me a half second. That extra half second would have put me in 2nd place! Oh well...
I'd like to extend a special thank you to Nealb and Bob Neff for helping Matt and I by tending to our tires in between runs so we could stay focused on driving. You guys worked your butts off scraping OPR from our tires, checking pressures, etc. Thanks for lending a hand!
We definitely have unfinished business in SS and plan to return next year. We should have some videos online soon.

I'd like to second this. We couldn't have done it without them. Sometime during the week Neal coined a cool phrase - "Drive like heck and don't screw up". (well... it went something like that) Good advice indeed.
It's more than just these guys too - TX Region is a class act. I'm glad to be a part of it.
Here's our fastest two from Nat'ls. They're probably not synched precisely, but you'll get the idea. See if you can figure out which cone I hit on the East course. Hint - it's not at the finish.

Finally got around to uploading a few of our vids.
Nationals was definitely an absolutely surreal experience for us this year. We did far better than we had ever realistically hoped as a team. And personally I had always figured it would take me another 5-10 years to improve enough as a driver to ever win a championship (or never at all). I am very grateful to have had such great mentors and I want than everyone who has given up support, encouragement, and wisdom over the past years.
A massive congrats to SharonE are in order. The Eberline's have really worked hard the past few years and improved soo much. Getting to see Sharon taking home a trophy really was one of the best moments of the whole event for Kim and I. In addition Steve put down an absolutely scorching run on the west course. His run was fast enough that he would have been fourth in class if nationals was only the west course!
Here is the video from my class winning run:
