I'm not either, but I say things that could typically be taken that way, but I say them in such a way that I usually make them laugh

That's EXACTLY what Officer Shephard (another Trooper) told me.

I love it when people like this are exposed for abusing power granted by the people, against the people.
I actually shocked he isn't on paid leave, i guess cause he didn't shoot the kid.

Yep, I hate stuff like this! I was commuting to work one morning in Charleston, SC (highway driving) and a cop pulled on and started going under the speed limit. He accumlated a long traffic jam of cars behind him.

I pulled into the fast lane and passed the line and the cop at 5 over the speed limit. He then tailgated me until I was about to get off the highway and turned on his lights.

He came up with a attitude and started laying into me. I repeatedly asked him what I did wrong and he never said speeding. He kept saying "you were disrespecting me" when I asked.

He had a trainee with him and I think he was showing his power over all the poor commuters. The cop wrote me a ticket for "careless operation" which later got dismissed by the judge without even going to court. I just gave him a call.

    Did your buddy walk home?

I've run into cops that were courteous, but that's been the exception. A good friend of mine dated an Irving cop for a while, and all of his cop stories ended with "they kept runnin' their mouths so we just beat their ass and cuffed 'em." That, and he would go out drinking with us, get absolutely shit-hammered, and then... get this... drive back to IRVING from Greenville Ave in his Brand New Big Bad Guido Trans-Am. Dick.

One time I got pulled over by a Dallas lady-cop on Central inside LBJ (right around lunch rush hour) - which has zero room to pull off. I pulled over to the right, slowed down, then exited at Walnut Hill and pulled into the first parking lot. She came up to the car screaming at me "YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY! WHY DID YOU EXIT THE HIGHWAY!!?!?"

Well, this got me going, so I laid into her "LOOK, I WAS TRYING TO GET OUT OF THE ***KING TRAFFIC FLOW! THAT'S WHAT I WAS TAUGHT! THAT'S THE SAFE THING TO DO! BUT I GUESS THAT DOESN'T ***KING MATTER TO YOU! WHATEVER I DO I'M GONNA GET ***KING YELLED AT! SO WHATEVER!"

Then she paused and looked at me quizzically. She apologized, thanked me for my concern for her safety, told me to slow down, then went on her way.

    Booya.

Did he look like this :

I got a bit bold with a Bedford cop in my youth for pulling me over for what I felt was no reason. We argued a bit then he said you need to kick it down a notch or your going to jail. I decided to see if he was bluffing... the jail was nice.

BTW. they called my parents since I was a just a pup, parents decided to leave me in the can. So I spent the night got McDonald's that morning!

I guess I'm in the minority... I've never been badgered by an officer of the law.

It's always "yes sir" and "no sir" and act shocked then say you were sorry and not paying attention.

That's gotten me out of more tickets than I can count, including one for doing over 85 in a 55 - The car's speedo only went to 85, it was buried on the stop post and to quote the cop:

I was running a little later than normal and had the paper plates on my '95 T-bird, due to one of the guys in the car pool not getting up on time. I saw the Louisiana trooper in the trees as I past at 5:30 in the morning and hit the brakes well after I had been clocked. He pulled me over and said "Do you realize you were doin 78 in a 55?" which I corrected him and stsed it was actually a 65 and I had just picked the car up two days before. He asked if I was running late to work, which I looked at my watch and said "not yet..."

He promptly let me go with a verbal warning to watch my speed. I think he got flustered when he realized he made a mistake about the speed limit.

    Woot!

Last night, 1am, 7-11 on Spring Creek and 75. (Getting a Snickers)

Pull into a spot and notice a cop writing someone a ticket on the other side of the gas station. Come back out, turn the bike around and put it in first and am about to putter off when sirens and lights ablaze the cop whips in front of my bike while another cruiser flanks my side with the gas station on the other.
At this point the front officer is getting out of his car yelling at me to cut it, remove my helmet and jacket and step away from the motorcycle.
Hand on his holster he yells "Wheres your plate?!" to which I point to the side of the wheel facing the 7-11 on the opposite side of their cars. (Legal mounting)

To which he says "Oh" and goes and runs my license anyway.

So in this case, the Snickers was the cause of me not going anywhere for a while.

Never really had any bad run-ins with the police in my youth. Grew up in a small town where almost everyone knew you or someone in your family.

Cruising the streets of NE Ohio in the dead of winter. My buddy was driving, I was shotgun and we had just dropped off another kid who had got sick in the back seat (too many beerski's), so the car smelled like a brewery. We are crusing down Main St and coming up to a red light. My buddy doesn't want to wait so he jerks the car left and slides thru a 7-11 parking lot and onto the intersecting road. (Driving on snow covered roads was a blast!)
Next thing lights and sirens behind us. I start pitching beers out the window into deep snow drifts on the side of the road. (Brilliant, I know) We pull over and both get out. My buddy goes and sits in the cruiser. I'm standing in back of the car in a t-shirt. Probably 10 degrees outside, but for some reason I wasn't cold. My buddy gets a ticket for failure to yield right of way and cop tells him to tell me not to waste good beer like that.

Got busted once for street racing in Plano in High school right after they passed the "go straight to Jail for street racing law." Blew by a kid in a Civic SI and looked back to see a cop behind me. Pulled into a grocery store shopping center and thought that I was going to jail. He called for backup, then they both came up to me and asked me what I was doing etc.

It was fairly late at night and they must have been towards the end of the shift, they told me that they could arrest me etc etc and finally told me to get the F out of Plano and never come back. This took 20-30 mins and I really had to piss so as they left I pulled up to the grocery store to run in and use the bathroom and they followed me and told me to go find a bathroom in Carrollton or they were going to arrest me. I got out of there as fast as I could :)

I had a friend who was a Bedford cop, and he informed me of a few of the "laws" that can keep me out of trouble.

A ) The police CAN NOT follow you. I was constantly being tailed by the police just cause I was under 18 and driving around late at night. After I was told this, I would do a few "laps" around the same block, then pull over and get out, flag the cop down, and ask him why he is following me. They would always give some BS about "just patroling the neighborhood." Then I would ask why they followed me around the same block 3 times, and then inform them that that is harassment, and I will report them to their supervisor. After a few times of doing that I could drive around without a "police rear escort" no matter how late.

B ) "Cops can't even PRETEND to see you if you are going over 100mph." If they pull out to follow a vehicle already going over 100mph it is immediately a high-speed pursuit, and, unless in the pursuit of a felony offense, is AGAINST TEXAS LAW! Of course, if you slow to 99mph they can pull you over and give you a ticket for the full speed. I have proven that MANY MANY TIMES when I was younger, but not in the last 2 yrs. I did goto jail for 135 in a 60 where the cop pursued me for 7 miles. I got it dismissed for SEVERAL REASONS, one of them being the fact he conducted a high-speed pursuit. That was back in 2002, and haven't needed to test it recently.
Wealth, power, and experience are apparently not enough to save us from social influences. Groupthink, as described by I.L.Janis, is the tendency for group members to reach a consensus opinion, even if that decision is downright stupid (Janis 1982).
