Where did you get them shaved and how much? IMO, seems like a waist of money for the type of tire it is. For regular track days, I've been told not to shave the RA1's cause they'll last longer. If I was doing SM then I'd shave'em for the slight performance edge.

Nealb is a nationally competitive autocrosser, he wouldn't shave his tires if it was a waste of money. It's a common practice in the street tire classes these day.

everyone has their opinion on shaving or not shaving

over the years I've been autocrossing, I have found that with most brands (e.g., BFG, Yokohama) last just as long shaved as not shaved

I'm talking good competitive runs, not tread wear

that is, you may have tread left, but the good stick is gone

and Falkens are notorious for heating up and losing grip

shaving takes a lot of the heating away -- no tread block squirm

shaved tires are faster than non-shaved at least in autocross use

and the guys at the front of the Spec Miata pack shave their Toyos

I had a local guy I know shave them

    he charges $125

he shaves dirt tires and the BFG tires used in Legends, and has done at least 4 sets for people I know who autocross

I had my 15" Bridgestones shaved by the same guy. Much better shave than TireRack. Almost as good as PTS.

Cool, I've got a lot of track experience but still fairly new. Still trying to figure out all the tire options, pressures, etc. The RA1's I had for Hallett's SM/PA class I certianly had shaved. Of course the Hoosiers and BFGs don't need to be shaved. Thanks for the info.

I do if you can ship to Lubbock, I don't have much other room in my car when I come home. I'll pay extra.

No less than 30,000 PU's left the DFW area last weekend headed for Lubbock. Surely someone can help out here.

    yes, I'm willing to ship

I typically use Discount Tire and piggyback on their deal with UPS

they charge (I think) $10 each for 15"

might be less since not across the country, I'll have to check

PM me with an email addy, and I'll send you pix and we can go from there
