The maximum legal CB power output level, in the U.S., is four watts for AM and 12 watts (peak envelope power or "PEP") for SSB, as measured at the antenna connection on the back of the radio.

I just bought a CB on eBay. It’s a Cobra 75 WX ST. I just noticed the seller said it was Peaked and Tuned. From what I read, this is a good thing. Another potential buyer asked him, “How many Watts?” and he replied, “12 watts is what the CB shop in McKinney, Texas said.”
Is this ok? I thought anything over 4 watts is illegal. I need this CB for Miata runs obviously. I want to make sure it will work ok.
From what I read on the net, Peak and Tune is not illegal as long as you stay within the legal 4 watts. Is there a way for me to tell how many watts this thing is putting out or do I need to take it to a CB shop?

I'd say it is legal unless you have a linear hooked to it.
We have 75 WX in both our Miatas.
What are you doing for a speaker?
The BnT has a splitter running thru the OEM retractable, and I can shout farther than it will Trans/Recieve.
