Default Digital Camera Video for In Car

My SO gave me a Sony DSC-S700 digital camera. In reading the book I see that with memory stick it will record up to 3 hours of video. The camera has a tripod mount on it so I was pondering using it with a mount for solo in-car video so that I can review the many mistakes I make on course.

Question is whether this is worth the effort or if I should save my change for a 'real' digital video cam. As with so many things in life I'm trying to find the cheapest most effective approach.

    Thanks

I've found that "real" video cameras make for better video but it really depends on how good you want the video to be. I used a MiniDV camera in my Miata and now use a nikon point and shoot for the RX-8.

The MiniDV just looks better and I was able to use a wide angle lens.

If you save your change for a video camera get a Mini-DV or memory card type. Avoid the DVD and hard drive types as they don't like the vibration you'll get when running them in the car.

    AMEN to that brother!

Also if you ever want to get things put on dvd or edited for the web just shoot me a PM

Also if you go to a real video camera try to get one with optical stabilization

    I use a Canon Powershot S50 for in-car video.

Best feature - auto shut off after 3 minutes. Worst feature - wind noise with the top down.
