Thread: Keeping it under warranty ;)

Default Keeping it under warranty ;)

I took the car to have it photo'd by my insurance agent the other day and she said "I liked your other one better", "what are you going to do to make this one not just another Red car?"

I had been thinking about how to do this without affecting the warranty and came up with this.....

I am going to get all the appearance package body parts in Black.
and have the double stripe painted the length of the car with the exception of the ground effects and the bonnet, the paint warranty will be no good probably but who cares.

i haven't seen this done to another NC, and it would look good i thought.

Also maybe a Mazda Speed intake and Muffler since that will not void my warranty either and will make it sound more like a sports car, + give it a couple more ponies.

    after warranty....
i have been looking at the inproved wannabe roll bar at Goodwin and some coilovers, to keep it near stock ride with better handling....but to be honest i am real impressed with the handling of the stock suspension it's just a little too tall.

anyway that's what i have been thinking of doing.

Why paint stripes on when you can get vinyl stripes that can be removed if needed?

So… aside from adding a body kit, custom panting, a roll bar, an intake, an exhaust, coilovers, and new wheels you’re going to keep it completely stock, right?

Billy, perhaps you ought to take a lesson from the car you recently sold (at a substantial loss) and learn to enjoy what you’ve got without f***ing around with it so much. Just my $.02.

The only other thing I’ve got to add is that I think adding black body parts will probably make the car end up looking like another riced-out Civic with a primer painted body kit, but that’s just me.

Billy, I say do whatever makes you happy and enjoy the car. I do like the idea of Vinyl stripes as opposed to painting them on

My vinyl stripes are holding up well. However, I suggest you pay a professional to do it. If I were to do it again, I would pay someone.

I would keep the stock colored body panels and just do the stripes if it were me. And I would use vinyl not paint.

I thought that Vinyl would probably pull the pain up if removed or would fade in the sun or the edges might come up upon washing the car.
that's why i thought of painting.

Do you guys know someone who does vimyl work that uses premium material and is good at what they do? aprox. price?

3M Vinyl is supposed to last 7 years, but that depends on color.
Red you will be good to get < 1 yr.
Good vinyl can be removed and with a heatgun, should not remove paint.
The big problem most people dont think of is that most paint fades.
After a few years, and removing stripes, leaves the stripes in unfaded paint.
Look at commercial trucks with the ghost of former signage.

    Food for thought!

My stripes have held up well. I was the car with the pressure wand and they've done well. No curling or appreciable fading. The car sits in the driveway and not in the garage.

OEM+ is they way I like to roll.

My MK5 GTI is a good example.

Mods that are subtle however transform the car... they way the car should look from the factory using factory parts.

I say no to the black body kit and just do the intake and muffler.

Billy, if you're open to suggestions I'd say:

    (1) Skip the AP bodykit and get some blingy wheels. (You may want to lower the car for best results.) This color would complement your red nicely IMO.

    (2) Maybe get that factory chrome/polished windshield surround.

    (3) Instead of stripes, how about a vinyl wrap on the factory fender "flares" in an accent color? Maybe a darker shade of red, or black.

I agree with the PM part... nice that you didn't comment about anything else schitty. Like the reason I posted.

Anyway I removed the whole thing.
