Thread: How long of a drive?

Default How long of a drive?

Jessica starts a new job tomorrow in Farmer's Branch, and is staying in Wylie right now. However, she is not used to traffic and doesn't know how much extra time to plan for in her commute. It's about 20 miles. Given early morning traffic, how much time should she budget for the commute? She was thinking 45mins-1 hour. Thanks, She'll be taking 75-635.

The radio announces an accident one direction or another at 635 and 75 almost daily. I come from the other direction and often work nights, but from what I've seen, traffic pretty much slows down to an effective 25mph or less through Farmers Branch during the heavier periods, which start at about 7am.

Others can probably give you a better estimate, but hope this helps at least a little.

Wow... Takes me 45 minutes to get to Richardson from Lewisville and that is with over 1/2 of the distance being on the PGBT at high speed. The bit of being on I35E is a bitch... and 635 is always much worse.

She'll be better off taking the PGBT over and finding a different route south to work than taking 635.

Another option is surface streets. Spring Valley or Beltline can actually be not so bad during the morning commute. I used to live in North Dallas and took surface streets to Luna and 635.

That estimate is very accurate. Tell her to anticipate an additional 10-20 minutes just because LBJ traffic blows.

I live in Wylie and used to drive to the Galleria. I would leave at 7am and get to work at 8am. This was back in 2005 before the high five was complete. From what I've seen and heard, traffic isn't any move any faster since more people use that route these days.

Don't know where she's going in FB, but I would say 1 hour and 10-15 minutes.

It takes me 25-35 minutes to get from Plano to FAR western Farmers Branch - 18.5 miles.

Surface streets are the most consistent route, and probably your ONLY choice if you're talking Farmers Branch east of I-35.

I'm in the 35-45 min range in Allen to Addison.

Take the Bush and save 10 minutes vs 635 usually.

Don't take the Tollway in the morning.
