    Default Brake Issue

I have a 1991 Miata and am having a bit of a brake dillema. When I depress the brake pedal, it will go to the floor. When I pump it repeatedly, it is like it pumps up and I get pedal pressure and feel back. If I let it sit for a minute and press it again, it will go to the floor. I have run the brake booster check in the repair manual and it appears to be working ok. Also, the master reservior had a leak and I switched, but that did not help either. Could the master cylinder be shot completely or could it be something else.
    Thanks,
    Rob

Sounds like a bad brake master cylinder to me. A rebuilt one from Vatozone probably isn't too expensive, and if you have patience and a helper, it's not that bad to install.

After you pump the brakes does the peddle stay up? Or does it slowly go back to the floor? If it stay up it could be air in the system. Goes down, you got a leak somewhere.
Hmm what is decent? Are we talking about your decent or my decent? I'm just curious because I don't want to offend anyone else's decent...

If you fill up the master cylinder, and pump it a lot, over and over, is there a puddle of fluid under the car, or do you have brake fluid all over one of your tires/wheels?

If there isn't anly leaking fluid, it sounds like the master cylinder.

    Hope this helps
