$0 for my first car, a 1979 Mercedes 300SD turbo diesel (5 cylinder). Now that was a boat... 0-60 in 22 seconds. Given to me by my sister. First car I actually paid for was my 1986.5 Toyota Supra; $1200
09 Lexus RX350
.... no Miata
$150. It was a Ford disguSTANG. Had a 2.3 liter with an automatic. Couldn't even spin the tires in gravel! Bought it from my aunt after it been through her and her three sons. Car had 186,000 or 286,000 miles. Not sure since the old odometers would reset after 99999.9.
I drove it without transmission fluid most of the time because it had a terrible leak. It never had treaded tires and had a horrible heater core leak that would fog up the windshield with a green hue. The car was a nasty faded primer color. No idea what the original color was. Had nasty blue interior and no radio. I hated the car.
$1000 for my Mom's 5 year old 1980 Dodge Challenger. My parents didn't buy us cars because they felt that we needed to learn responsibility, although it was probably worth a lot more than what I paid for it.
My brother got a 1982 Chevy Luv Diesel for $500 from my Uncle that needed a transmission. He hated that truck up until the point I conned it out from under him. My Father heard enough of his whining and I was haaving issues with the Challenger, so when my Mom got her 1991 Miata, I swapped for the pickup and my brother was left with a 1986 Nissan Pulsar NX.![]()

The first car I owned was a hand me down 1978 Ford Fairmont Futura (2-door, 302 V-8 and mustang chasis based) Kept that car running for 3 years before Dad bought me the CRX for college. Gave it to my sister and she trashed it in 6 months.
1966 Mustang GT convertible, $2000 in 1987.
Looked like this when I bought it:
And this after Dad kicked in some cash for the restoration:

$900 for a 1981 Dodge Colt hatchback w/ 96K one owner miles!
This was in 2003.
$1400 1967 Mustang Coupe. Lime Gold paint! I wish I had it.
$1500 for a 1967 Mustang Deluxe coupe 289/c4.
A great car until I got my 1964 Impala SS 409/4 speed.
I drove that with a 65 Vette 327 in it.
Damn I loved that car, triple red, low and fast.
The next week after I got my Mustang, my dad found a 1967 GT-350 for $2300.
Lime green with white stripes, I'd still give my left knut for that.
Todd, that is beautiful. You really have good taste in colors.![]()

Not sure how much my parents paid for it...but it was definitely the beginning of my passion for convertibles.
Then...after I got my driver's license...
Looked exactly like this one. I think I paid around $1400 for it. My first love. Kind of ironic...considering what my car now looks like...
Actually, my first car, I rarely admit it, was a Ford Pinto. I think my dad paid $800 for it. My dad bought it for me thinking it would be safe!? I told my dad about the "little" problem the pinto had, and then asked him why he didn't love me. Sold it a week later to this lady and her son (poor guy) and bought the Fiat 124 Spyder.
Prelude year one. 1979 was the only year that the tach and speedo shared the same pin. Very easy to read both in the same spot. Was black and my father bought it used for about $5500 in '83 and then I bought it from him for about $3500 in '85. Made good money delivering pizzas for Dominoes when they had the 30 or free guarantee. Unfortunately, the mileage went up fast, as did the maintenance on that little car and when the engine gasket blew I traded it even for an 81 CB750 custom, my first bike.
Looked like this but was black. I even painted the trim black too.
My first car was $7k out the door. At the time it was a decent deal...I guess.
'89 Hyundai Excel with dealer-added a/c. Seven trouble-free years, then all hell broke loose with the electrical system, then the engine took a dump on me while hauling around some college friends just before the start of the semester.
I'll spare you the picture...

It was 1969 and my dad said if I wanted a car to save my money.........so I got a job at Krogers and a few weeks later paid $150 for a 1954 Ford 4 door w/ three on the tree. First year for the OHV V8, I tried my best to break it but never did and sold it a year and a half later for $300......after much polishing!
