I think helmets have to be at least snell 95 now, correct me if I'm wrong. Snell 2000 is about to get phased out in 2010.
I've still got my old helmet from my '92-93 year at A&M - I think it's a Snell 90 spec. Will that be legit for the Auto-X in Mineral Wells next weekend?

They (ER) have loaners if you don't have one.
Cool... good info.

If you plan on doing this much and not doing many track days there are some cheap M2000/2005 helmets you can pick up, especially open face. Check ebay for Pyrotect.

Heh... you read my mind... that was going to be my next question. I figure I probably oughta go ahead and buy new hat.
One more question... The helmet I've got is a full-face, but I'd prefer to switch to an open-face. However, I thought I read somewhere that SCCA was going to ban open-face helmets... True? False?

As sammm would say, "If your head is worth $50, get a $50 helmet."
SCCA was never going to ban open face helmets. There was actually some discussion about the danger of wearing a full face helmet in a car with air bags. There is some proof the combination will break your neck.
IF you're going to be using a loaner helmet, you might want to invest in a painter's sock. It looks like a bella clava and costs a couple of bucks. You can get them at paint stores.
Or.......
On the track, I am fearless.
If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

I can't believe I'm questioning the safety guru but I think that any helmet that received snell approval whether M or SA should be just as safe as the next regardless of $100 or $1000. The extra money is for a lighter design, better breathing liner and other bells/whistles etc.
