If you want a slightly larger capacity and flow rate than the OEM filter size, you can use the OEM size that fits a '98-'03 Honda Prelude. That's what I use, in Mobile 1 variety.
What oil filter is recommended if I don't want to use an OEM? Gotta do this on Saturday.

I have 9K on the car and have been using dino oil. If I want to change to synthetic what do I have to do to get the residue out if needed?

I would suggest draining all the dino oil, pouring in 4 quarts of water and a small bottle of Palmolive, and driving this around for ~100 miles. Next, drain this, rinse with water (make sure it's distilled - tap water will leave deposits) for an additional 100 miles. After that you should be able to drain the water and add synthetic without a problem.Originally Posted by Tim the Teacher

Careful, he just might do that.
Just switch over, Syns mix with Dinos.

Dammit too late.....I already got the hose in and water on full blast. Wanna buy a slightly used '03?

As far as brands go......
I've been using Bosche.
I've also heard good things about the WIX filters and of course the Mobile 1 filters are excellent.
Many have teated the Purolator filters as best.
I guess I would say anything but Fram.

i've been using this brand of oil filtr from pepboys and it is great, no pressur drop off at 1200 miles like with fram and they tend to last a little longer and are easier to remove.

I just use OEM filters...

99 Disco, the go anywhere ride
I'll get the brand name for you next oil change i usually find them by the red and black box w/ the white filter a friend turned me on to them.

i'm quite partial to the Nippon filters, they have the right anti-drain back cone in the bottom, so we don't have so much dry startup.
just my $.02
out of curiosity, why use the prelude filter?
Larger filter surface area means a higher potential oil flow rate before the bypass valve cuts in and you're recycling unfiltered oil back into the engine. For street use it probably doesn't matter, but for extended high rpm use, the higher flow rate you can maintain through the medium without bypassing the filter, the better.Originally Posted by fueg0
