Billy, I would say it is worth saving a little and getting the flex setup. The reason I dont have teins yet is waiting to be able to afford the flex over the SS.

I am thinking of some for my car, anyone have any Tein coilovers that can report on their experience with Tein?

Seeing how almost every local track dog guy has flex's, you should know that Gary is the man to talk to. He had flex's in stock for your car recently.
I was thinking the Flex might be too stiff, what are some of the spring weights you guys are running?
I am still shopping around, most are wayyyy too high for what i want to spend.

Stock flex spring rates on a NA/NB miata is 7kg/6kg. I run 9kg/6kg for track setup. They were on the car when I got it, but I was planning on going with higher rates on my '96.
Since Tein does such a great job of matching spring rates with their production models, I'm sure the spring rates they chose are sufficient.
Billy, in the NA/NB version the spring rates were the same on the SS and Flex. Spring rates don't tell the whole story though. A well matched damper and spring combo can give you a very comfortable ride even with higher spring rates.
Driftdevil commented that my old car on Flex's was had a better ride than his car on Eibachs and AGXs (with the stock seats and damping turned down for street driving).
BTW, what happened to just leaving it the way you got it???![]()

Well after getting more comfortable with the car there are some inmprovements that can be made.
namely the dive/squat/and roll under hard cornering/braking and launch.
I thought some coilovers would be a nice way to fix it, i should have went that route on my NB but chose a spring and shock combo.
I also have a Mazda Speed front sway bar...not installed yet.
I added a Roadster Sport Race muffler and a CG lock, but doubt I will be adding anything else for HP, since all options require the car not pass inspection.
I do have quite a few appearance add ons that I would like to add after i get the suspension done to taste.
I am really still happy with the power the car makes, it's pretty peppy :)
I imagine once i get the suspension under control it will seem to be slower since the car wont be throwing me around so much...lol

p.s. since you have done it before, think you might be willing to give me a hand with the sway bar install?

Billy, I've had the Teins on my car for about a week now, and I can't stop slobbering over them. I too thought the spring rates would be too high (390/335), but Gary 'splained it all to me and gave me a ride in a customer's car before I bought anything. After a week of daily driving, I'm very pleased with the ride and the handling is incredible - esp since AJ got his hands on my car yesterday! They're a lot of money, but IMHO, they are well worth it - keep the Teins in mind.

Like you wouldn't believe... AJ did a hell of a job on it - the alignment was pretty screwy (the front end was toed out about 1/4", one rear wheel was toed in, the other one was toed out, and the camber was pretty jacked up too). To me, it felt very nice but a little darty. Now it's very stable and just feels awesome (maybe that's psychological?). You'll have to drive it again sometime and see what you think.

This is the first car I've had that I could tell a big difference in the alignment. Granted, my specs were out of whack before, but it wasn't like the car was pulling real bad one way or the other - it just felt "funny" to me. I guess Miatae are real sensitive to little changes in that regard, but AJ is da man...
BTW... thanks for the awesome avatar.
Billy... unless you go for something used, you won't be saving that much money in the grand scheme of things by piece-mealing together shock/spring package. I mean, you've got that shiny new NC, so if you're going to do anything like that to it, make sure you do it right the first time!
I'm not sure what the NC setup is, but if it's anything like what I got for mine, you should take a ride in one before you buy.

It's not a matter of going cheap, it's that the difference is less than 100lbs on the front and rear springs between the SS and FLEX
That and the car will just see the occasional autocross, and the wife wont drive it if the car is too bumpy.
and I didnt go cheap on the last car, believe that...lol
everything that went on the NB was brand new.

I maybe wrong but I thought RPMChris did coil overs on his NC. Might wanna pm him Billy.
