You're welcome to all. I did tons of the other types of shots over the last few years. You know, going through the slalom, lifting a tire pissing a cone, from on top of the stadium, etc., etc. I just get in to phases and try different things for a while. Right now, I'm hooked on the "motion blur" shots, which require a pretty specific scenario and have turned out to be the toughest to get a good shot. Another of the things that's a problem is location. I hate to drag some poor soul along with me as a spotter to a "choice" location to take shots. I know most folks don't really want to stand around babysitting me after they have already done their work assignment. Anyway, we'll see what I come up with for the Tour.

I agree that panning shots can be the most difficult, most the pics are pretty good but you may want to raise your shutter speed just slightly as you're getting good motion blur but some of the subjects are a bit blurry as well.

Oh, oh, pick me, pick me. I'll do it.
On the track, I am fearless.
If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

Come on, POS, what part of "I would have been faster if I had run my grandaughter's Radio Flyer wagon pulled by my Dachund Heidi!" did you not understand? Have you been skipping your medications again?

    PS: Thanks, Dennis!

I constantly try to adjust the aperture and shutter based on light available, but I'm still learning. I try to keep it in the 1/60 to 1/125 range, with an emphasis on the lower end. I really want to get good at the 1/50 range as the motion blur can be incredible. I get the slight blurring on some shots because the cars are going at different speeds, so it tough to match the panning speed with a given car. The other reason is cars are slowing down, speeding up and also flopping side to side, so I have to get everything just right to get the good shot. I could throw out even more "rejects" that aren't perfectly in focus, but then some folks wouldn't get a picture at all. I'm not a pro by any stretch of the imagination, so I don't freak out when I post a few that are not "perfect." Plus, after working years in IT, I have pretty thick skin, I really don't worry about what others think, I do it strictly for fun and NOT the $$$'s (the money I earn doesn't even cover the cost of the site hosting). Also, if someone gets really whinny, I just don't take pics of their car.

Oh, and cone-cerned, do you really want to do your regular work assignment and then spot for me out on course? Really?

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the pics just like to talk the technical aspect and hear about different approaches and techniques to photography. Keep up the good work

I took no offense and hope you didn't either; I was just rambling, though it came out more like making excuses. My approach is try everything a million different ways a million times, and then talk endlessly about it.

See you at tech tomorrow, I'll get a fish-eye shot with the wide angle lens of your Elise. I really like that color.
