Thread: My new fitness regimen!

    Default My new fitness regimen!

...I call it Working for Federal Express

I just finished my first day of real work there (3 days of training previously) and it's definitely a workout, but fun (for now at least). It's not as intense as I thought, plus simpler.

I'm a checker-sorter, which basically means I scan packages then stick them into a container that goes on an airplane. I'm working at the Alliance airport location.

Feels nice to have a job again...

As for the fitness thing, I checked my weight when I was leaving this morning, and it was at 189.5 lbs. I'm going to try to lose about 30-40 lbs over the next couple of months... I'll keep this thread updated when I meet goals.

Apparently I lost some fluids while working in the heat (no AC) because I just checked again and I'm at 188 lbs, after breakfast and a lot of water

Losing weight is a lot easier when you get paid for it

EDIT: Yes, losing that much weight seems like overkill, but I did it without even trying to eat right when I worked at Wal Mart and dropped 30 lbs in no time at all. I'll be fine, don't worry

I put in 5 years with UPS as a sorter while I was at university. My weight never got over 150 lbs. during that time.
    Good luck.

Congrats on the new job and fitness regime.

At 150 lbs, people would lock me up in a hostipital thinking I had cancer. 190 is about right for me (not that I am close to that either)

Maybe with the new workout regimen you won't get heatstroke at an autocross this summer!

Seriously though, congrats on the new job!

And maybe with the new sense of concentration/direction you won't have to look at the chalk lines either

Congrats on the new job, FedEx is a pretty good company to work for (just not in sales @ the Irving location). Enjoy the 75% off shipping discounts!

Wow. That's three people on this forum that work for FedEx now.

The job is great for me while in school. Part-time, good pay, full benefits including tuition reimbursement and job security.

However, there are plenty of fat FedEx employees. We have several chubby couriers and a few hefty handlers as well.

With nearly four years of experience at FedEx let me share some things I've learned.

    1. Seniority rules. Everything is determined by it so get used to it.

    2. Not everyone has the same work ethic. As soon as you realize this and realize you can't change other people's work ethic then it will be less frustrating. Just do your best and deal with the slackers as best you can.

    3. Job Security. You have it as long as you don't falsify or do something stupid like punch a coworker. (The latter is a tough one sometimes!) FedEx claims to never have had a lay-off. When they need to cut back, they just look for people who are falsifying anything.

    4. Have a good sense of humor but be careful what you discuss in public. Another good way to get in serious trouble is to offend anyone even if they just over hear your conversation.

    5. Don't be late. They expect punctuality, regardless of the weather.

    6. Don't be a hero. Get help lifting anything over 75 lbs and try to be as safe as possible. If you get hurt, disability or workers comp won't pay well and if you get permanently injured you're S.O.L. BTW, FedEx does investigate accidents and almost every accident is deemed "preventable" meaning it's your fault.

You have a great job as long as you want it as long as you don't do anything dumb. I still like FedEx even though it frustrates me sometimes.

I've noticed that already... but, the people I've worked around so far seem to be a good group. Everybody was working hard and working well together. Although, I'm sure I'll have a few gripes against me once the FNG wears off

That's one thing I'm good at... controlling my temper

Yeah, the ol' "Don't offend anybody else but suck it up when you're offended" thing... but as you can see here on the forums, I'm not usually a very offensive person

That's one thing I take pride in

Get help lifting anything over 75 lbs and try to be as safe as possible.
My back already bothers me sometimes but it's been the same for years, so I've been taking care of it. I had to laugh today because I picked up a tiny box and was surprised at how heavy it was... after I loaded it I looked at the tag and it said 76.1 lbs... but two people would barely have room to hold it together.

All in all, it looks like a good place to work. The guy that got me into it (an RC flying buddy) has been there for 17 years and LOVES it, so if I have problems I know who has experience to deal with them.

Congrats! And good luck with your weight loss goal.

My new fitness regimen is my wii fit. It isn't very nice to me...so as long as I don't stomp on it...maybe it will do me some good. It is fun..and it's funny when it insults me for missing a day...and then when Nails gets on it actually ASKS HIM "so how do you think carazzie is looking since she started her work out"???

That little wii board animation is almost as annoying as the microsoft paperclip. At least you can turn the paperclip off.....

Working their asses off. FedEx is much easier company to work for, or so I've been told by the ex-UPS workers there.
