Meh, I hand wash my cars, but I don't wax and clay bar them weekly. More like every six months. In fact, it's been about four weeks, a track day, an autocross, and 1000 miles since I washed my car. Think I'll take care of that this afternoon.![]()
I'm over the top -- Hand wash, in my driveway, wax and Clay bar weekly
I pay someone else to hand wash my car (kids count)
I use automatic car washes
Does it ever rain in Texas??
So I was curious -- What methods do you guys use to keep your Miatas clean? I remember reading somewhere in my manual that automatic car washes are discouraged. Mine has never been through one.
Bone-heads are determined to try though.

I throw the hardtop on and take it to carspa. They do a great job on washes and will do a half decent wax for cheap. The only thing is that you need to tell them to not do the clear coat treatment if you have an NA without clearcoat. One time they did the clearcoat treatment even though I told them not to and it created strange streak marks when they waxed it. When I pointed it out to the manager, he was very apologetic, and then had his guys claybar it and re-wax it no charge. I won't take any car to non-carspa carwashes. Everyone I have tried on the OTM have done a poor job. When I can't get to a carspa, I take it to a coin-op booth and wash it by hand.
I wash mine every couple weeks or if it rains and wax
99 Miata Black
Bout the same as Altian. Clay and wax twice a year and wash it monthly at home. Just finished cleaning it up for tonite's drive-in.
I get my chops busted for having the cleanest and straightest spec miata around. I wash it when needed, wax it twice a year with Zaino and clay bar it once a year. If I had a street miata again, it would stay spotless and would never see a car wash or rain.
I live on a dirt road. If I wash the car, it's dirty by the time I get to the highway.
On the track, I am fearless.
If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

My car exceeds my driving ability. That's the only possible explanation.

Normally the Yellow Miata is washed weekly.

I normally wash mine at the two-bit car wash (the half-ass hand wash), but I broke down yesterday and ran it through the auto wash when I left it for the oil change (super lazy) and inspection sticker (great success on another 13-month sticker). They were kind enough to kill the wild high-pressure top spray just for my car - looked pretty gentle to me. And now I'm all lubed up and legal.
