I was wondering when an Evo school in the area would be held.
Other than Gerry, has anyone done one of these? Is it worth the money and set of tires?
just an FYI
assuming there is enough interest, there will be an Evolution School weekend at MW on May 15
http://evoschool.com/index.php?page=schedule&start=20
registration will be via the Evo web site
and the local SCCA guys will host Miata world over Memorial Day weekend at TMS (my understanding of current plans, could be subject to change)
2009 MX-5 STR and track toy
2003 Z06 -- Not a Miata, but 3200# and 400 RWHP is fun
OTM -- 2012 Sierra, 2016 Impala (Appliances)

Yep it is definitely worth it!
I have been to Evo school a few times and hope to go again this spring!
They offer more than one class newbie.
Here is a link for ya! -> http://evoschool.com/index.php?page=classes
Sorry if it was listed on the site, I didn't see it.... What's the cost for the classes?
90 Red NA
91 Red NA
99 Triple Black NB "Dimples"
Looks to be anywhere from 75-250 bucks depending on the course you sign up for. I saw the rates on the home page.
Keep in mind that following Friday (May 22nd I think) is the Track Dog Miata event at MSR for MiataWorld II weekend.
Who's instructing this year?
VW Bug in running shoes
M Porcupine sedan
M Porcupine coupe
Crusty old e46 beater
Battery Powered appliance car
Gerry and I are instructing, plus others depending on which classes are held and how many
likely Mike Junior Johnson and possibly Andy Hollis
won't know till closer to the date

Yea Apex is hosting and sign up is on their site but it's a Miata only event. Just wanted to bring this up for those (like myself) on a budget and probably can't afford both events so close together.
Ok, as you all know I am so new all this it isn't funny, well it probley is but hey. What is this training thing about, is it needed or is it highly suggested to take this course for autocross racing?
Next questions what is this Track Dog Miata event about the following weekend?
Oh when you guys refer to autocross, are you always talking about the course that is ran one car at a time with cones?
yes, autocross is a parking lot thing, cones and one car at a time, never near another car
timed competitions put on by lots of different clubs
training/school is VERY necessary if you want to learn quickly and do well
not needed if you always want to be at the back of the pack
local SCCA has an autocross school each March, but having taught both, Evo is superior
Evo is more expensive to attend but the quality of instruction is better IMHO
at the very least, do the SCCA school in March, the 14th I think, and then decide on Evo
Apex (and other organizations) puts on track days at MotorSports Ranch in Cresson, SW of FTW
students/participants grouped by driver experience level, about 15 cars on the 1.7 mile track at the same time, passing only in designated straight areas
Novice group always has an instructor in the passenger seat, and has classroom help too
the Track Dog event on Friday May 22 is part of the Miata World event, and Apex is putting on the track day at MSR sponsored by Track Dog (thanks Gary !!)
the local SCCA will put on the autocross event on Sunday May 24, likely at TMS but I don't know that for sure
so, depends on what you want to do
autocross is less expensive and a lot more social time
but track days give more driving time and a bigger adrenelin rush

ok, so well worth taking the courses got it. Now the track days, are those the ones where you have to have a role bar in your car? Sorry for so many questions on this but I honestly have no clue on all of this.
Lots of good information on the May 22nd track day here -> http://forums.dfwmiata.com/showthread.php?t=13180
The TDR/Apex event has 40 novice slots (rollbar recommended), 20 intermediate and 20 expert slots (rollbar required).
Ok, I am very interested in the School/ Training part but the other one just not ready to invest in a role bar yet. Going to get my feet wet in autocross for a bit and then maybe move up to that neck of the woods down after that. Thanks for the info and can't wait for the training.
