Thread: Kumho 710's vs. Hoosiers A6's

Question Kumho 710's vs. Hoosiers A6's

So my competitor got a set of Hoosiers for his '99 sport and beat me like a red headed step child at the last SCCA event.

I'm wondering when I do finally break down and buy some "new" tires how much of an advantage are those Hoosier giving my competition?

If I get yet another set of 710's will it be like taking a Popsicle stick to a gun fight? I also can't find anyone who can give me a release date on the "new" 710's so if I were to get 710's now they would be the "original" style.

So which ones would be the better choice??

    TIA

Are you sure it was the tires?

Terranova seems to do well on 710s... usually faster than CS.

Mr. Baker is one good wheel-man but we are usually a bit closer in times.

Jerry would be fast on Montgomery Wards Tires with whitewalls.

I don't think you pushed the car as hard as usual on those fine 'loaner' tires you were running.

Were you on fresh tires? Last I remember you were using attic tires from the dawn of time. Might not be the best comparison to brand new Hoosiers.

At the National level, the V710s and the A6s seem to be almost equal - the A6 may work a bit better in cold temps (like Topeka), but the guys who win would've won on either brand, imho. In other words, if you got your ass handed to you, it's not because you're running on Kumhos. It's cause you're running on really old Kumhos. Or maybe you just suck.

One thing's not in doubt - Hoosiers tend to cost more, and they never last as long.

But "Sammy the tire czar" said this set of tires were like new, and were only used by a German guy on Sundays back in the day!

Thanks that pretty much answers my question!

Thankfully the "Hankook Pimp" hasn't swung in to sing the praises of a set of 225/45/15 Hankook Z214s in the C71 compound.

My S2000 likes the Hoosiers. 6 out of 7 Astock cars signed up for the Texas tour will be using them. I can't say how much faster they are but I think they are faster. On my car they need to be fliped after about 25 runs they get the groove of doom.

Oh yea sign up for the tour POS.

Not that I could run any brand but Hoosier right now but....when we tested on the GT3 the A6 was about a full second faster on average! But hey Kuhmo is bringing out the new 710 now so you never know!

I think you are going to have to go with Hoosiers now that your competition has taken the plunge. Hell, it's only money! Right?
What's left of a '96 Miata with stock clutch.
My car exceeds my driving ability. That's the only possible explanation.

Wished I could get an answer on when those will be available, seems to be a secret on a release date for the 15" versions.

Which means that it's time for VictoRacers.

Anyone interested in the "new" Kumho's, here's what my contact at Tire Rack Wholesale says:

    Hello Lisa,
Here is the latest info from Kumho that we received on the 26th. In a nutshell, there is no firm ETA. They are going to start building sizes as they deplete their inventory of the original tread.
    UPDATE
Kumho has provided some additional information.
    1. The new Ecsta V710 sizes announced at SEMA will trickle in during the course of the summer. All new sizes will have a slightly different shoulder profile than the current tire, with a more squared off shape and sharper edge in the shoulder area.
    2. A real performance change to the tread compound (and possibly construction) is in the works, but won't happen until late 2008 or probably 2009.
Let me know if you have any questions.

    Joe

So that means that all the Jason Isley's out in California will get them before any of us! I really wouldn't look for anything new for awhile! Which is good...now I don't have to get a set mounted on another set of wheels and switch tires during the day to see if the New Kuhmo's are faster...thats so much work!

OK it's that time of year again (so I dusted off this old post) what is the general consensus on the Hoosier vs. Kumho battle for 2009??

The prices are almost the same, but the longer lasting Kumho seem like a better TCB option..... Decisions Decisions!

Has Kumho ever introduced the "new 710" or are they still shipping the old ones??

A6=faster, V710=last longer. Not sure if this is an option for you but the 205/50/16 and 225/50/16 Hankooks are on sale for $85 a piece right now.
