    Default Lip Painting

I need some advice on how to paint the front lip of the Miata. Mine is so "sand blasted" that can use some new paint. I am thinking of using the TCB spray can method. Other than prep the area with some 800 grid sandpaper, wipe it down with some paint thinner or acetone, and than spray, is there anything else I have to do? Do I need wet sand it with 1200 grid between coats? Or one coat is all is needed?

I find it's all in the prep for good paint work. I'm no pro but I would do the prep you said with an 800 wet sand and then do a light second wet sand before a second coat of paint. Then follow it up with at least three coats of clearcoat.

I used for my dash panel paint. They sell in quarts and in aerosol cans. Clearcoat too. Give them a paint code and they'll give you what you need.

I painted mine with spray paint from autozone. Used 800 grit sand paper and 3 coats of primer, then sand, 3 coats of silver, then sand, one more coat of silver, then 3 coats of clear. It turned out pretty good.

Bumper black available at most auto supply houses. They also sell an adhesion promoter.

It is a satin black like the original color and has a built in flex agent so you don't crack the paint the first time you hit something.

    ...and across the line.

Yes, mine is a 99. Do you think the Dupli-Color glossy black paint from Auto Zone has flex agent too? Have anyone of you has removed the lip from the 99 before? I loosen all the bolts from the underside and it still won't come off. It seems the bolts are loose but they won't back out all the way.

I think there's double-sided sticky tape holding it on too.

Sammm, are those bolts suppose to come out too or just hang there loose? I see the double sided tape but no thinking it is hold the lip back.

I'm not sure about that. I never had the lip off of mine. See if you can your hand in there thru the radiator opening (maybe?).
