Yea well you'd think that a Formula 1 car would be able to break the record, sheesh.
Thought you'd get a kick out of this...
I got it in a press release email today.

Track record for what? I saw a kart doing better times than that at ECR.
Now if I could get each and every one of my green students to watch this video and see how he sets the steering wheel and pretty much leaves it alone. (other than minor adjustments) He is not hacking or sawing the wheel. I definitely learned something from him in turn 10. It is all about patience and getting the car rotated!!! I know most you already knew that, but an impatient SM guy, my throttle is an on/off switch most of the time!
Actually, that's not an F1 car at all. It's a Star Mazda, powered by a bone-stock RX-8 engine.

Oh I knew it wasn't a F1 car, I was exaggerating the fact that it was a very light all out race car. The RX-8 engine is a fun tid bit, I think I would love the match of a rotary in a car that light. Thanks for the info.

Yea an F1 would've been 20-30 seconds faster. Didn't know it was a rotary either though. Also wasn't trying to dogpile, just saying I've seen a guy drive that track with his ass maybe two inches off the ground and thought he was doing 1:36's or 1:37's.
He was driving this-----v
Where is the suspension, lol? how many cc in that thing?

There isn't any, at least not the way you're thinking. The "suspension" is typically in tire pressure and adjusting the flex of the chassis.
Probably 125cc. 6-speed sequential gearbox, 0-60 in about 3 seconds, ~100 mph top speed. Shifter karts are insane.

That's really cool that they adjust the flex of the chassis to tune the handling.
