+1. I carry a AAA card and a mobile phone. That's my emergency toolkit, and I haven't needed anything else.

Wrap them around the pullies and tie them off. They only have to last long enough to get you to a parts store. You would not want to run the AC or Powersteering off of them. But they will run the alternator long enough.
