Sorry to hear that. Good luck finding the next job.
To put it frankly, the legal profession sucks.
I just finished a temporary job that is what legal types call a 'Document Review'. You sit at a computer screeen 10 to 12 hours a day, 6 days a week looking and documents and deciding legal issues. This one is especially bad because they had us crammed elbow to elbow in a room with our co-workers. They also had the manditory guy with no shirt on in the back of the room beating the drum to the rhythm of the keyboards. When you ask for 30 minutes for lunch they give you a dirty look. You are expected to not take a lunch break and eat your ramen at your desk. It's kind of like working in India, only the parking costs more.
These used to be low key affairs with just us paralegals and a few law clerks and guys fresh out of law school. They used to give us an actual hour for lunch. Now because of our wonderfully bad economy you have pissed off mid-career lawyers working with you while negotiating with the bill collectors on their cells. It's like working in a shark cage. And with so many of us unemployed they now know they can treat us like crap. There are no benefits. There is no job security. The pay is good, but considering the fact that I have a freaking Masters in Business, a Paralegal Certificate and a few computer certificates, it really isn't that good. Now I will be back on unemployment again until the next gig comes along.
I am seriously thinking of a career change. Possibly in the area of professional sheepherding or maybe working as an Arctic dogsled guide.
Are the car repo guys hiring?![]()

Seriously. I am SICK of legal work. I want to do this. One of my dogs is even trained for it.

It has its merits. Don't think I could convence the wife to live in 7x10ft trailer.
Information Technology is not much better. I have put in about 60 hours this week so far with no hope of compensation because one of our crew is on a cruise ship in the gulf of Mexico.
Go get a PM certificate and apply at Pepsico/Fritolay. Your MBA and computer expeirence may be a good fit somewhere in the company.
I live where even the coyotes won't go...
Hmm what is decent? Are we talking about your decent or my decent? I'm just curious because I don't want to offend anyone else's decent...
My Masters has a specialty in Law Firm Management. It's a hybrid degree from the University of Denver with courses in both the Graduate Business School and the Law School. Most of the work I have been doing lately I am overqualified for, but most of the guys I worked with on the last job were lawyers doing paralegal work. There are lots of unemployed and underemployed people out there.
What is a PM certificate? I just passed my Microsoft Certification for Powerpoint on Wednesday. The same day I got let go.
Good luck with your jobsearch.

That sounds pretty shit tastic.
I would rather have the shits for 8 hours a day than sit elbow to elbow with bitter, legal douchebags doing meaningless work.
No offense intended.

Sorry to hear about your job loss but I am glad to hear there are many unemployed lawyers out there. Maybe they will get a job in front of home depot and actually become productive members of society.

That sucks to hear.
It does explain why my friend that graduated law school last May and passed the bar the first time, is still looking for a job. I'm going to have him read this so maybe he'll feel better. Right now he's looking at joining the Navy.
