maan1986- What paint? How many coats? Wetsand? What grit? Buff? Orbital and/rotary?

Rustoleum... the kind in a paint can that you have to stir around.
+ Mineral Spirits in a 2 cups paint to 1.5cups MS ratio.

Wetsanded at 600, 800, 1500
Rubbing compound applied via porter cable
Polishing compound applied via porter cable

~8-9 coats.

That was due to such a light paint being applied on areas that ranged from metal to primer to original white paint.

Darker colors would probably need less coats.

Additionally, I pretty much painted this thing outside which led to lots of dust, bugs etc that I had to wetsand out.

If you did this in a closed garage, and had washed the garage out before hand...you will have less contaminants to deal with.
